Help!! What length veil?

Lorraine, on August 30, 2018 at 3:54 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 15

Help!! I've been trying to figure out what length veil I should wear with this dress (a drop-waist a-line):

Casablanca - Tierra

I'm short (5'2"), so I don't want something that will overwhelm me. The bodice is pretty lacy and ornate, but the skirt doesn't have any beading or embellishments on it! It's also not a very formal wedding - it's in a small, rustic, open-air chapel, and we definitely have a country theme going, so I'm afraid a really long veil might be too much (though I think they're beautiful).

A waist or fingertip length would be lovely

I'm 5'2"! I'm going with a cathedral length veil, I only get to wear one once so I'm going for it! I'll take it off after the ceremony though.

I'm doing a fingertip length veil that has some beading embellishment around the edges that matches the beading on my dress. You could do something similar with lace or something similar to the top of your dress. I tried on some longer ones but thought it overpowered my dress and I feel like the finger tip veils still have that pretty bridal look but are more manageable and easier to walk around in

I decided to go with a cathedral length because the fingertip length cut my dress in half and looked off. The cathedral completed the look and gave it more of a "flow." I'm so happy I went with the longer, more dramatic look. We are doing a rustic-country vibe as well Smiley smile

I'm 5'2, I tried this one on when I was trying my dress on. It's pretty long but I think it looks so good. I love the long veils. Hope this gives you a visual of yours!

I would try a chapel length! Not as long as a cathedral but still looks beautiful!

Hi Lorraine! Welcome to WeddingWire and congrats on your engagement! Smiley smile

First off, your dress is GORGEOUS!

Second, like the others mentioned, you only get to wear a veil once and there are long veils that don't overpower. So, if you've always envisioned a long veil, there are definitely options for you! A long, sheer, simple veil would not clash or overdo your dress at all, in my opinion.

In addition, the placement of your veil can help with how prominent it is. Are you wearing your hair up or down? Smiley heart

I actually found a veil I loved, but didn’t like the length, so I tried it on with my dress and told the shop where I wanted the veil to sit. For me & my dress it looked best falling just below my bum. Any higher it would have cut off detail in the dress, and anything longer would have looked weird. They were able to order me a custom length veil.

Can you try on veils with your dress, so you can see what works best?

Thanks so much to everyone for responding!!

I'm wearing my hair down! I feel a lot better now about having a long veil - but I'm definitely going to try on a fingertip-length veil to see how it looks with my dress, as some of you have suggested! It's good to know that I can definitely do the long, sheer veil without it being too much if it turns out I don't like how the fingertip veil looks on me!

I'm 5ft 1.5 !!! and I am going for a long veil too.... I'm going to look at the above mentioned chapel veil instead of cathedral. I found short veils made me look even shorter!
