Help! What do i wear?

Pat, on March 3, 2022 at 10:24 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 1 5

Oooookay, so a former student of my FH just sent out save the dates with their wedding website on it. Scrolling through the FAQ, I found this on what to wear. I'm still confused!!

"What should I wear? What does Elegant mean?

Dress to impress!

Elegant is close to semi-formal: Suit and Tie, cocktail/evening dresses, or dressy pantsuit. But these are just examples. All we ask is that you come looking sharp, and that you don't wear white! Our reception is outside, so there's a lot of gravel and uneven ground. "

Ummmm, elegant as in long gown? Would tea length be acceptable? It's outside, in May in PA. I'm in Florida, and anything below 60 is FREEZING for me. Guys have it so freaking easy. Smiley angry Suggestions? Options? Picture inspiration???

Its going to be chilly most likely, especially once the sun goes down. I would wear a pantsuit or dress pants and a sweater/ dressy top

I would also do some sort of pant suit. If you get cold easily definitely something warm.

They probably just put “elegant” on there to avoid people showing up in jeans. That’s what we’re doing. I put “formal” but not meaning a long gown, just not casual. You never know what some people would show up in 😳

A pantsuit would definitely be the best to keep you warm and in their dress code. You could also do a dress, tea length would probably be fine since they mention cocktail attire, and bring a sweater for when it cools down at night.

That’s a great example of why made up dress codes are confusing instead of helpful. Especially the examples listed which are not semi formal. Semi formal is akin to Sunday Best that you would wear for Christmas/Easter which is a bit fancier than what you would wear to a weekly house of worship service but not quite red carpet attire. Wear whatever you feel prettiest in. The length of a dress is your choice. Rather than a pant suit which not everyone is comfortable in, do you have dressy pants and a nice top? Similar to what you might wear to a holiday dress up party. That would easily work and be elegant.

I am on line shopping now as I type this. 😂🤣 I am in Florida and basically live in sundresses. Hence the panic post. Thanks for the solidarity on the confusion of this, I feel a lot better.
