help - Wedding in less than 2 weeks!

Jennifer, on September 28, 2020 at 1:41 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 10

My wedding venue switched Coordinators 2 months ago. The first coordinator who showed me the room and did all the original planning was great. There were twinkle lights and paper lanterns all around the room. I asked if the twinkle lights would still be there and she said yes. Honestly, it was the selling point because it made the room look cozy & romantic and I wanted a room with twinkle lights.

The new coordinator stripped the room completely. Took down the lanterns and removed all of the twinkle lights. She said they are a "fire hazard". I am going back and forth with her through email telling her that I'm not trying to be a pain but I'm really upset that all of the lights are gone and the room just looks empty and bare now. I was shown a room that sold me....this isn't it. She is just responding saying "sorry, but they can't be up due to fire hazard...you will like the room when you see it, it's much cleaner now."

Am I just out of luck?

What is she offering as a solution to "you will like it better"? I'd ask her to show you. And the whole reason why you booked this venue was because of the lighting. What is she offering that's comparable not a "fire hazard"

She's not offering anything. I told her I am going to buy paper lanterns and asked if she could put them up. Her response was, "yes, I will have to hire someone to put them up and take them down at the end of the night." I told her I am scrambling now to buy get this stuff because I thought I had everything. I am going there this Friday to drop off all of the decorations. I'm just upset about the lights...I guess I don't see how they are a fire hazard? Does that mean the lights in the building are a hazard? It's all the same electricity.

Everyone is telling me to keep fighting it, but I don't want to be a "bridezilla" and be difficult. But, I can't deny that I'm mad about not getting what I thought I was getting.

Are the lighting noted in your contract? Anything that refers to it? I would definitely speak up. Sometimes it's difficult to do so, but the worst that can happen is they say no. I just went through this and I did get my way, but I also had everything in writing.

They do have battery operated twinkle lights, have you considered those? Or, maybe you could appoint a light caretaker, to watch the lights at all times?
Perhaps talk to the fire Marshal in your area.
LED lights are much safer, could you use those? So sorry, that's so disappointingSmiley sadPraying for a solution so that you can have your dream day! Keep us posted 🤞🙏❤

The lights are not mentioned, no. Otherwise I would have deff pointed that out. What happened with your situation? Was it something similar?

I was thinking of grabbing the battery operated lights. I just have to find some somewhere. I dont want to order anything, packages are taking too long to get to me. I just wasn't stressed at all before today lol. I had every thing ready to go, all boxed up. Now Im like how do I get these things in 4 days before I bring my stuff this Friday?! ugh.

Our package was for 2-hours but both the original sales person and the first banquet manager agreed we could stay in the space until noon (sunrise ceremony / reception) and then last week they wanted to charge us for the extra time. Grrr.... NO, it's in writing, I just have to be out by.... so, needless to say, I spoke up, copy / pasted all previous emails pertaining to that conversation and no extra charges remain.
