If you printed it as a poster and framed it would the quality be better than canvas?

My venue is asking for a canvas for people to see right as they walk into the ceremony but I’m afraid it won’t look right

If you're members of Costco, they have pretty good prices for photos on canvas. Are you downloading your photos in full resolution from the photographer or are they saved on social media? There is potentially a huge difference in resolution depending on where you are getting the pictures from. I'd ask your photographer for high resolution digital downloadable files of the pictures and then use those when you place your order. When you are trying to place an order, if you are getting an alert that the photos aren't a high enough resolution, that means they will look blurry (or even pixelated) when blown up. They will not look good and you won't want them displayed.

Do you think that it would ruin the canvas if it is low resolution?

It won't look good. The photo will seem blurry, or sometimes it might even be "pixelated" (looking like a bunch of tiny squares -- like a mosaic -- making up a big picture). If the software is giving you a warning that the photo resolution is too low, find another picture!

Where did you get those pictures? If you have original digital photos or have downloadable files of the digital images, they should be high resolution. But if you're copying images from a website or social media, they are likely much lower resolution. If you had professional engagement photos taken, I'd ask your photographer for high resolution digital files (if they were not included as part of your original package, they may charge you for them). If you have printed images of the photos, you can try scanning them as high resolution digital images, but they likely won't be as good as original digital files.

Especially if you are blowing images up to 16x20, you will definitely notice a BIG difference in picture quality/clarity, if you start out with low resolution images. (Even good images will likely lose some clarity when enlarged and printed on canvas -- the canvas texture will affect how the photos look as well.)

My photographer is my best friend and the pictures were taken on my camera and it’s not giving me the option to do high quality

You’ll need a graphic designer to resize the images, however if you’ve saved them from a site or your phone, the canvas will looks not as crisp.

You can’t increase the resolution of an image unfortunately. You can resize but that won’t change the native resolution. Your picture would still be blurry / pixelated. Can you print a smaller size canvas?
