Help pick the extra food we will serve!

mrswinteriscoming, on March 7, 2021 at 10:01 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 20

Our reception will kick off at 6pm with cocktails and canapes followed by the first course of dinner at 7pm and the second course at 8pm (dessert served later). When guests take their seats we will have bread rolls on the table but we are looking to have a few other things available on the table for guests.

Our venue offers the following options:

  1. Bring our own ‘ethnic’ food (i.e. smoked salmon on blini, potato rolls, savoury filled crepes)

  2. Antipasto platters

  3. An assortment of 2-3 salads and sides (i.e. cabbage salad with lardons, Greek salad, roasted potatoes, mashed potatoes etc)

If you were our guest and had your pick of ONE the ‘extras’, what would you choose?

Personally I love a good antipasto, but that's just my Italian self. To please a large crowd, option 3 has more sides so that would be better.

What a hard choice!! They ALL are making my mouth water 😋 you can’t go wrong with any choice!!! Perhaps the third one as I like Greek salad and potatoes - although I must say as a guest I’d be thrilled with any 🥰

The antipasto is likely more universally appealing whether you have guests with simpler palates or exotic.

Antipasto, but ... uh, I married an Italian American, and he knows that one of those reasons was because of the food.

I'd do option 2 because I'm assuming you'll have sides with your entree and maybe more potatoes pre-meal would be redundant?

That dinner seems way too long. Courses 1 hour apart?! I would tighten that up, people dont' need that long to eat.

Antipasto platters! Feels the most appetizer-y to me - salads and sides would make me think they're part of the main course.

What are you planning to serve for the first course and second course for dinner? This would be helpful to know when advising on which additional food to serve!

We haven’t decided yet as we won’t have our tasting for some while.
Currently the main contenders are caramelised onion and goats cheese tart / pork belly with apple slaw for the first course, and for our second ‘main’ course we are leaning towards roast chicken breast with lemon herb risotto / sirloin with red wine jus, mashed potato and vegetable stack.

Our venue requires a minimum of 45 minutes between courses but we are also having one of those weddings where there will be dancing in between, so it won’t just be one hour straight of eating.

All played courses will come on the plate as is so there won’t be any shared sides for the table.
I do want to speak to our venue about alternate sides - the current list is pretty much all salads and potato options so I’m hoping we can get something that’s not a salad 😂

Sounds delicious. With these main contenders in mind, I would personally gravitate towards option number 3, the salad assortment, though you might not need the potatoes if they will already be served with the main course). Salads would also pair really nicely with the bread rolls. All three options sound great though, so you can't really make a wrong decision here!

We also had a timeline like this (dancing in between courses). Here in the US, we call it an "East Coast style" wedding. It's common for more-formal and black tie weddings Smiley smile

Thank you for giving me a way of describing it! Lol this will help quite a bit with other questions!

We have a 6 piece band so it’ll definitely be a wedding filled with food and dancing Smiley smile
