Help! Our food is terrible!

Mrs H., on February 23, 2011 at 12:12 PM Posted in Planning 0 16

We had our tasting last week and the food was less than spectacular. Our venue requires us to use a particular caterer. We were served some really bland chicken and NY strip. The NY strip was good, but this is not what will be offered to our guests. Sirloin will be in it's place. This cut of meat is not nearly as good. And the price is $30/pp. I just don't feel its worth it. My cousin had Carrabba's cater their wedding, and they had some fantastic chicken. And it was only about $20/pp

They offer other food selections but I just don't feel their food is worth the price. And asking for Veal or Filet will increase the price and the quality still won't be there.

Another option is theie Tour of Italy. It's not steak and chicken, but it's pasta with chicken or meat in it. The cost is much less, but we haven't tasted that.

What should we do?

I guess you are stuck with this venue....and hence caterer ...right?

wow....ask them to taste the Tour of Italy....

you definately don't want guest leaving with the memory of bad food.

would you serve everyone this dish?

Yea, they were very strict about what we were allowed to taste. And they offer 3 kinds of chicken, and the one they served us was not the one I wanted anyway.

Hopefully they will offer us something good to eat.

Explain to them that your expectations were not met and ask them how the meal selections can be edited to meet your expectations. It could be as simple as changing the seasonings of the meats or the side dish selections. I don't think the caterer would want a bad review so I would guess that they would try to bend a little for you.

No, Ms. G! I would never serve that crap to a guest at my house! lol

My cooking is much much better than what we were served. And it's not like the food is cheap either.

I don't think you should leave it up to "hopefully".....food can make or break your wedding....you MUST try and talk to them like unique said.

Are you stuck with this venue?....definately stuck?

You're right Unique. The other option is just to order all of the appetizers on their menu and just skip dinner!

    OH ......I'm so sorry!!

Get tough!! and get in there Michelle....You have to call them and tell them you are disappointed.....I would even throw in the fact that you want to refer them to your sister, church or family for an up coming event....and tell them with what you tasted all your guests are gonna be very unhappy and will not want to use them for thier events........

You have to be very firm to make sure you get what you want. Food is THE most important aspect of any reception, I don't care what anybody says. Usually you can talk with the cater to fix the menu. You might be surprised what they're willing to do. Perhaps come to them with a menu idea and see if they can make it. I feel really strongly though that if they cannot deliver on a menu you can be proud of then you should walk away if you can. I would hate for you to lose money.

But you also must remind yourself, they are not doing you a favor by catering your wedding. YOU are doing THEM a favor by hiring them to cater your event. They should go above and beyond to make sure you are happy with the food you will serve your guests. Be strong, don't be afraid to speak your mind and I hope it works out for you :-)

I would insist on a tasting of what you planned on serving. On the off chance that what you chose also sucks, I would ask for a sample of the Tour of Italy.

I'd request another tasting let them know your concerns and ask if maybe there is another way that they can prepare the chicken so that its not too bland. At least you were able to sample and know ahead of time. Our venue does not due tasting, but they insist that their food is amazing. They've been in business for 40+ years so I guess we will see.
