Help on RSVPs!!!

Jessica, on May 1, 2017 at 3:47 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 20

It was brought to my attention earlier by another forum user (thank you Carousel!) that I have two spelling errors in my RSVP cards. I accidentally added extra "s" 's to adults under the accept/decline lines. I bought white-out to fix them but I'm afraid that will look tacky or sloppy. I'm also not sure if I should fix them and order more because of the added expenses and time to ship. I already filled out all the RSVP cards. This one is an extra I had and the 60 is a mistake (I had a discussion earlier about how I wrote the wrong number in) Should I use white out? Or just suck it up, fix the spelling and order more?

Honestly, I probably wouldn't even notice. I would most likely just pay attention to where to write in that I'm accepting or declining. I'm mainly concerned about the group of 60?!

Since these will be coming back to you anyway and they will most likely be tossed, I wouldn't worry too much about it. They look very nice and I don't think your guests will think much about it.

From where did you order them? If you contact their customer service can they offer you any suggestions?

As a guest I doubt I would even notice it.

If you have extras you can try the white out to see how it looks. But I agree with K dot, I would leave them alone. It's a little strange but I think a lot of people will just overlook it.

What catches my eye more is... who are you reserving 60 seats for?

Yeah what caught my eye was the 60 seats reserved in your honor

I think white out will look worse and call attention to the error. Most people won't notice, but if it will drive you crazy, you should re-order. Ask your printer for expedited shipping options so you can still send your invitations out on time.

You have to explain this group of 60.

I would re-order. I would never send something out with an error on it, and I think using white out would just call attention to the issue.

And since you will be re-ordering, I think you should make some other changes. Pick either "___ seats reserved in your honor" OR "___ of ___ attending." Not both. It's redundant and comes across as naggy. Similarly, skip all those mentions of adults. Addressing the invitation to specific individuals and putting "___ of 2 attending" makes it clear that kids are not invited. In the incredibly unlikely event that someone puts their kid's name instead of their spouse's, then you call them and let them know that unfortunately the invitation was for the parents only.

Oh, and don't worry getting these in the mail ASAP. Invitations should go out 6-8 weeks before the wedding, so that would be between June 3 and June 17.

DON'T - I repeat DO NOT use white out. That will look worse! Either accept the error and mail them as is (its really not a HUGE mistake) or order them corrected.

This is not something that should cause you major stress. If you are a perfectionist and you think this is really going to bother you, I would suck it up and order the reprints. If you are more laid-back -- let it go! Put your focus on something more important.

I wouldn't worry. I had to read it twice to notice the problem. Changes are no one will notice

@Lindsey O. Please see my last discussion "RSVP faux pas" and that will explain why the number 60 is there.

@StPaulGirl, Thanks for the tip. I am sending them out earlier because mail is very slow in my city, subject to theft even in actual post offices, and I have a lot of international and OOT people that keep bugging me to send them. 90% of the invites are traveling over 5,000miles. They need time to be mailed? Smiley smile

What site can you get response cards that state "we have reserved __ seats in your honor". Thanks.

The 60 was the only thing that caught my eye, that and the style was very 20s and how awesome it is.

@Jamie K. The reason for the 60 is posted in my earlier discussion "RSVP faux pas". It's a funny story, go find it, and have some laughs.
