Help! Need escort card/displayed seating chart ideas

Amanda, on June 26, 2013 at 3:07 PM Posted in Planning 0 17

Okay creative WW ladies, so I just realized that what I already made are technically PLACE cards (ie, they just have the name, no table number) and there's no way to make them into escort cards. So, now I need a new idea for escort cards/a nice way to display our seating chart. Factors to consider:

-Wedding is outdoors on the water, so simple tent cards will blow away

-We're doing a nautical theme and have some decorative fish net that we could hang up or lay over the escort card table, but I'm stumped for how to attach cards to the netting

-Invited 170 guests and will have about 18-20 tables, so keep that in mind with size/complexity

-I'd prefer not to spend too much time/money on this (ie, won't buy a huge framed chalkboard or set of window panes just to write names on - even though those are cute!)

1, 2, 3, go! Any ideas?

Could you use ribbon/ties to just attach the cards to the netting....and have them grouped somewhat...like use a bigger sign that says "Table 1" and all those will be grouped around the table 1 sign..etc

This is what we're doing (see picture)...maybe you could get a giant piece of Styrofoam (they're cheap) spray paint it blue and put the net all around that and just stick th cards on some Popsicle sticks and have them stick out?

Could you use clothespins? I think I've seen seating charts using clothes pins and are ultimately designed so that you replace your name with a polaroid of yourself. I'll see if I can dig it up.

What about clothes pins to attach them to the nets?

How about those mini wooden clips (why the hell can't I think of the name right now?!) and attach them to the netting?

    Ahhhh clothespins! Durr!

Here's one using clothespins on a fence. I imagine this would work just as well with a net.

LOL Jenn! Happens to me all the time :-) Clothespins might work! If I could drape the netting over something to give it some height, that'd be ideal. I'm not crazy about them just laying on the table (picky, I know).

Can you get a bunch of sand dollars cheap? You could write names/tables on them and the weight of them would keep them from blowing.

Is there a way to hang it up on a wall of some sort? Maybe hang some seashells or mini anchors (or something that cooresponds to your decor) along with the cards. I would use the mini clothespins since you have a good bit to hang.

Picture of cards attached by clothespins to a fishing net. It could be stretched out between two poles that are stuck securely into the sand

Wood board option could be driftwood or cheap wooden boards kept natural, stained or painted a color

Could you maybe get some sort of tall stakes like for a volleyball net or something to tie it to? Or some thin pvc pipe painted so it's not obviously pvc? If you use pvc, you can buy some rebar to stick into the ground, then put the pvc over the rebar to hold it up. You could maybe even make a tall hoop (like in the pic, but taller) to hang the netting on.

Ahhh so many good ideas! Especially OTW's octopus idea hahaha. Thanks guys! I'm going to take a look at my craft supply and see what I already have / what FH could realistically build and decide from there.

We rented old windows from a local vintage/antique collector (she rents out a ton of stuff for weddings).....it was super cheap and easy, got lots of compliments! I wrote right on them with a chalkboard pen, then we just dropped them off after the wedding.

I do like the mini clothespin idea on the netting too!

The photo is not mine...just googled the idea to show you Smiley smile

I bought a big canvas and painted it navy blue. I hot glued nautical rope around the edges to make a frame. Then I put cards on to display tables. I put blue crabs under the table # to add to the nautical theme. Plus we got married in MD so the blue crabs were symbolic of that.

@Rachel S, where did you get those golf themed escort cards made? I LOVE that idea for my Golf/Country Club wedding and am hoping to find a reputable designer/Etsy Store etc. Thank you!
