Help! My wedding flats are super slippery!

Loganna, on September 16, 2016 at 10:42 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 19

So my wedding flats arrived in the mail a couple of days ago, and I absolutely love them! The only issue is that I'm discovering that the soles are SUPER slippery. Right now I can do multiple pirouettes on carpet! I'm going to be walking in on marble floors, so I really need to not have my feet sliding out from under me! Does anyone know how to make shoes less slippery? I've looked it up online a little bit and I've seen it recommended to "scuff" the bottom of your shoes up with sand paper, etc, but I'm worried that the materially on the bottom of my toes won't really work for that because it's not your normal sole material, it's really thin, and I'm afraid it will "etch" and not "scuff" (picture attached). Does anyone have advice on making these shoes less slippery? Has anyone successfully "scuffed" shoes that have soles like this? TIA!

You can spray the bottom of the shoe with hair spray but as the bottom of the shoes collect dirt they will start to get slippery again.

My grandma always used hot glue and it worked for her.... but I don't know if that would ruin your shoes so I can't say I would 100% recommend that lol

Oh no! I hate slippery shoes. I'm way too clumsy for that shit. You could try rubbing sandpaper on the bottom to scuff them up. I think they also sell pads you can put on the bottom of your shoes to make them grip better.

Buy some Kiwi Non-skid Sure Step Pads and put them on your shoes. You can get them at Wal mart, Target, etc.

Taking a bar of soap and rubbing it across the soles will give you traction ... Not sure how long it will last though?

I've heard about using the rubber sole stickers that @geenebunny mentioned.

I don't want to be rude but all I can think of when reading about slippery shoes is the Friends episode where Chandler can't dance because his shoes are too slippery

I second the rubber sole things. I get mine in the shoe department at walmart for bottoms of high heels.

Can you take them to a cobbler and have them re-soled with rubber?

I was going to suggest the same thing as Jessica. A few lines (not too thick) of hot glue across the bottom should do it.

Mine came in the mail and I noticed they were slippery as well. I an also having to break them in so have been wearing them some and that has seemed to help. Normal wear and tear should work!

Wow, thanks for the advice, everyone! I may try the soap and hairspray tricks and see how they work first, and if not, then I'll go buy some shoe pads. I've never seen the shoe pads... do you think they'll work as well for flats as they do for heels? Like, are they really thin so my shoes would still be "flat" with them? Sorry if that's a dumb question, I've just never had the slippery shoe problem before!

Also, @FlyingSoon, I definitely remember that episode! Haha

Most shoe stores and even CVS/Rite Aid sell things that go on the bottom of your shoes to give them some traction, it's essentially a big sticker thingy. They work great. I've used them on lots of shoes.

I used to do pageants and we used to sand the bottom of our stage shoes with a rough sand paper to make them rough so they don't slip. It's works great!

The pads will be fine with flats. I've used them for both heels and flats.

My quick fix any time I've had slippery shoes: take my keys and scratch up the bottoms.

The rubber sole grips or buy some grip tape, which is essentially sandpaper tape. I would worry it would damage a wooden dance floor if there is one though.
