So, although a little blurry, you can see its only held together by two prongs on top of a delicate (and thin) ring. and it just snapped right off!

Part of mine broke off too!

So my fiancé got my ring in October and didn’t proposed until February. I have to get my ring inspected every 6 months to keep the warranty, so in March they had to take my ring away because a diamond was loose, what!?

then two months after my ring broke. So I took it back to thr jeweler. Mine said because my ring was sized down so far, that it could have compromised the ring completely, or it was a faulty ring.

So they made my ring in my size. It came back and the ring was actually thicker and seem to be more secure.

rings shouldn’t fall apart or break that easily, so I know it’s hard not to stress because trust me I’ve been there, but there might be a flaw in the ring. They should fix it for you or make you a new one with no issues.

Hi Heather! I am so sorry to hear this! The best thing to do is to get to the jewelers as soon as possible! On the bright side, your wedding is one year away, and they will have plenty of time to repair your ring and looking like new! As for work, you may want to consider taking off your ring at times you know you'll be doing anything that could potentially damage the ring!

I have a ring holder for work, but sometimes I do forget to take it off, so my worry is that if a rope tug toy can snap it at home, then what if it just snaps somewhere else and I can't find it! I need to talk to my jeweler and see, but I've never heard of anyone's ring doing this. My mom wears hers constantly and never takes it off for any reason and has had it for 30 years! I've had mine for 1 month and its already broken twice...... Smiley sad

A jeweler will give you better advice on repairing the ring but, I have many rings and none of them have ever broken through normal daily activities so, I think it may be faulty.

I'd definitely recommend getting ring insurance (if you don't have it already) in case it breaks again and you can't find the diamond.

Also, for I'd invest in a silicon ring like Enso or Qalo. These are good for times when you are active and may potentially damage your ring (or at work when you can't wear a regular ring). If you work around any equipment or machinery you need to remove your ring at all times. I am sure there are health and safety regulations in place at your work and you need to follow them for a reason. The ring can become caught and due to the strength of the metal it won't break severely injuring you. I work in healthcare and if you don't think wearing a ring around machinery is dangerous then search "ring degloving" **warning the photos and videos will be very graphic and disturbing**

It looks like it wasn't made very well if that's what happened. I would talk to them about reinforcing it better because I've literally never had this happen to me.

What type of setting/what type of metal do you have? If you work in a warehouse you may want to get a stronger metal and/or a stronger setting. Did it break along the band, or the part where the diamond is?

If the band broke, I would recommend maybe getting the stones reset in a band that is made of 10k gold (assuming that’s not what you have already). My engagement ring is 14k but both my and FH’s wedding rings are 10k... you literally cannot tell the difference, and according to the jeweler you could literally drive over a 10k gold ring with a truck and it would not break.

If the part around the stone setting broke, maybe get it reset in a stronger/lower setting so it’s less likely to get caught on things. My ring setting is extremely sturdy, so stuff like the setting snapping off would never happen to my type of ring, whereas it may happen to one that’s held up by only a couple prongs (I’m including a pic of mine)

Definitely make sure you have your ring insured through your insurance company. My mind was put at ease so much once I got that. They will replace it even if it gets lost or stolen.

Oh also, if you’re still worried about wearing it at work, maybe get a silicon ring to wear to work and just leave your regular engagement ring at home when you go to work!

Im so sorry this happened too Smiley sad I’m sure they’ll be able to fix it

UPDATE: So the jeweler just got off the phone with me and she agrees it was a faulty ring. She said whoever welded it together at the manufacturer didn't do a good job and is sending it back to be fixed and then is adding more reinforcements herself.

Unfortunately, this isn't my first time hearing about someone's ring breaking shortly after receiving it. But, what's great is that you can get your ring repaired and hopefully fix the problem permanently. If this happens again, my best advice is to take it to a different jeweler who may have a better solution!

I put my ring on our home owners insurance too. My insurance agent said that loss of the ring and things like that are covered. Good for my piece of mind

My daughter had that problem. Her diamond sat high with what appeared to be a rather slim post and it didn't seem to have enough prongs to hold the diamond secure.
She took it to the jewelry store after it started to show signs of breaking off. The repaired it with a more sturdy stem and added prongs. It looks beautiful and it's been 10 years with no signs of weakening.
The jewelry store will be able to repair it for you!

It does look like the place it broke is where it would have been soldered together and if that's not done properly it will easily snap apart. I've took metals classes in college and this happened quite frequently with poor soldering. I'm glad it's getting corrected.

Oh yes that is very similar. So pretty too! Yeah adding it to my insurance was such a weight off my shoulders. I opened a personal property insurance policy and I pay $66 a year. Sooo worth it for the peace of mind!
