Help me spoil my bridesmaids!

Laura, on February 22, 2017 at 9:30 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 28

Good morning WW!!! So I've hit a wall with gifts to get my for my bridal party. I've gotten them earrings, tanks, and one more item, but they are an incredible group of girls and I want to complete this package with a bang to let them know how much I appreciate them. Share your ideas and thoughts!

Are the earrings and tanks for wearing on the wedding day?

Shop for them like it's their birthday is how WW puts it (and so well).

People will tell you that things you give them specifically for the wedding aren't gifts, they're props. I've been getting my BMs things they can use any time, and none of it is required for the wedding. If they want to use the clothes and jewelry, that's different. But if you're requiring it, it's not a gift.

Get them gift cards for a spa or Sephora. Champagne or a bottle of wine is always nice too. I put together bridesmaid boxes for my girls and included mini champagne bottles, chocolate, Sephora gift cards and handwritten thank you notes for agreeing to be apart of my wedding.

Treatsie carries gourmet sweets that are amazing. It's primarily a subscription box service but you can buy one-time gifts from their online shop.

You could also go with Godiva chocolate, or another type of widely available gourmet chocolate or treat.

I got my girls Kate Spade jewelry, hand lotion from The Body Shop, a trio of lip colors from NYX (the online shop has lip sets for like $6, and they're really nice!) and I'm planning to add some sweet treats closer to the day, so they're fresh and yummy!

ETA: OH, and sets of mini OPI nail polishes. I knew there was something else and I couldn't remember. That was going to bug me all morning.

I am planning on getting my girls Yeti tumblers with their initials on them. Who couldn't use a good travel coffee cup right?

@Penny that's a cute idea, but I will add that most people here advise not to include anything that says "Bridesmaid" on it, unless it's a photo prop (and therefore, not a gift). The community consensus is that that stuff just gets thrown away. Think about it-- would YOU wear an item that says "Bridesmaid" in any context outside of that wedding?

So OP, if your tanks say "Bridesmaid" or "Bride Squad" or something like that on them, they're a photo prop, not a gift. Jewelry.... eh, I agree that if it's part of their bridesmaid attire, it's not really a gift. But I won't side-eye you too hard for it if it's easy to re-wear and generally your girls' taste.

As @Nonna said, what would you get this girl on her birthday? Maybe the thing to do is to add one personal item per girl. Don't buy another five or six of the same thing. If one girl likes luxury soy candles, she gets one of those. Maybe another girl is a runner and would love some sassy new bondibands. What are some of their individualized interests and likes? Maybe we can help you more!

Some girls like whisky, others love wine & IPAS. They all love to work out and be active. We all love to be pampered. I'm a huge dog lover and all of them have pups and our dog is in our wedding. We are all working ladies and four of the bridesmaids have babies as well. Two are coming from out of state. I have an avid basketball player, two softball players... I have a friend who is as much addicted to coffee as I am. On a side note, thank you again. This is inspiring me already!

One of my best friends who is a bridesmaid lost her husband last June. He was also an avid softball player and as a gift for her, I wanted to give her an engraved softball as a dedication to her late husband. BUT her participating in the wedding, I know will already take so much out of her, so I'm debating on whether to go with that or not just because I know we will all start crying once she sees it. Should I give this to her another time?

I bought each girl a reusable tote (It wasn't monogrammed.) but that was really just to hold the other gifts, a necklace not for the day of, then I bought each one something different within a price range. One lady I bought a Harry Potter clutch and cauldron mug. Another I bought a gaming lootcrate. My man of honor I had best friend t-shirts made and bought him a lootcrate. Know your crowd.

I would recommend buying each person something different and not just a variation of the same thing. That is, unless each would want that item. If that makes sense.

Each of my BMs got a s'well bottle, then one got a flannel, the other got a really soft blanket, and they all got a handwritten note from me thanking them for their friendship and support. I think I spent 60-70 each? You don't have to go crazy. Heartfelt and sincere > tons of money.

I think I've been having a hard time because I am all about practically and I wanted to do individual gifts but didn't really think that was an option for some reason?

A fun coffee mug and some gourmet flavored coffee.

One of those whiskey gift sets where you get a bottle of whiskey and a souvenir glass with it (I've seen them at the grocery store).

Bondibands-- go check out the website! They're really fun headbands for keeping your hair off of your face while working out. Usually for runners, but there's no reason they wouldn't work for a gym workout, hiking, skiing, whatever. They even make a version that you can color yourself with special markers.

Raid Sephora and Ulta for face mask gift sets, lotions, body butters, bath bombs, etc. Gift cards are also a good idea, as another poster suggested. It may seem impersonal, but everyone is so picky about makeup. Sometimes you just gotta let people choose what they want.

The dogs are going to be in the wedding?! *heart eyes*

I'll let others weigh in about the engraved softball. That is the sweetest idea, OP. I'm sure your friend will love it. But I'm conflicted about whether you should give it to her at the wedding, or another time.
