Help! I don’t like my wedding dress! I found a dress when I was vegan no longer vegan and dress I got didn’t fit I had to go up a size. I can’t return it or exchange it. (Final sale dress) I hate the open back idk what to do to fix this dress! I’m hoping to do cap sleeves maybe add a train and definitely figure out how to cover back. Going to seamstress on Friday to figure out a plan

I think that adding a train and adding sleeve would make the dress a complete different looking dress, in a good way! Have you thought about making it off the shoulders?

I'd be open to making it a completely different dress it just doesn't feel complete. I agree with the train and am open to cap or long sleeves. Haven't thought about making it off the shoulders but its an idea!

Wold you like an illusion lace back added? Or a detachable train that starts at both shoulders in back, partially covering the back, with or without illusion lace in the back opening. Who made this dress? Lots sell fabric, and you could get the same lace as the upper front bodice.

I have zero seamstress abilities or knowledge. But I see the cups under the lace. So maybe it’s possible to creat a sweetheart neckline, make the dress fitted in a trumpet style and add a small train. But honestly with trying to change the dress, it seems like the amount spent on alterations could be spent on a new dress altogether. Then you could just sell your current dress on either: preownedweddingdresses.com or stillwhite.com

I'm storing the dress at my Mom's waiting to hear back from her about who the designer is. I love the look of an illusion lace in the back that's what the first dress I tried on had. I liked the buttons all the way down to. I'd like illusion lace back with detachable train or somehow give this dress more of a mermaid wedding dress style

I feel bad my Mom bought it for me. I can't see her making her money back on this dress. Not a bad idea to do a sweetheart neckline maybe I could do cap sleeves with that instead of sleeveless. Trumpet style is pretty too feel like the dress has potential but totally incomplete

I see. It might be best to be honest with your mom about it. I’m sure she doesn’t want you to be unhappy. Although you may not get 100% of your money back, it might be better than altering the dress to something that you HOPE you’ll like in the end. Best wishes!

I recommend you start with evaluating why type of dress/gown cuts look best on your body. A line? Wrap? Then go from there and discusd with your seamstress.

The lace is very lovely. Echoing others, if you made the top a sweet heart neckline, had those super darling "sleeves" that can fall off your shoulders and remove the little belt, tighten it around your waist and hips, add a train and some volume at the bottom, it would look so lovely!

I do agree with Minimalist Bride, find out what shape of dress you want and flatters your figure best and as the seamstress for guidance along those lines.

The lace is so beautiful - but if lace isn't your thing, you could have the lace on the top and redo the skirt entirely and do a ballgown style with it. At that point, it would be a completely different gown.

Is buying a new dress out of the question. I feel like by the time you do all of that you will end up spending just as much as a new dress.

Personally, I like it! Maybe open the neckline to a bateau neck. Have you thought about selling it and getting a new one? I'm just thinking that all those alterations could cost the price of another dress.

I’m not sure I’m going to see if she can expose sweetheart neck and add vintage buttons for an illusion back if you much than I can buy custom pieces on Etsy

I have zero seamstress knowledge l, but I think after making those changes and "bling belt" could help. It made a world of difference when choosing my dress!

I have ZERO seamstress knowledge myself too but maybe the top could be made into a halter style? I think that adding a blingy belt or even a sash would look nice. How much of your back do you want to want to be covered? Maybe a cape for that?

Love the cape idea Smiley love - especially if she ends up doing the sweetheart neckline. That would look so elegant and stylish.

If unable to add a train, try wearing a cathedral veil. It gives that added drama but can be easily removed instead of having to deal with a bustle! Not to mention it would be much cheaper than adding a train and bustle!

A bustle is the set of alterations done on the back of the dress to help hold the train up. Brides tend to get their dresses bustled after the ceremony and pictures to prevent it from being stepped on, ripped, etc.
