Help! Invitations and pocketfolds!

Shea, on April 23, 2013 at 2:25 PM Posted in Planning 0 21

So, I had my invitations designed and using the vistaprint template for a 5x7. I ordered the samples from vp, and also had every intention of using cards and pockets for my pocketfolds. I also ordered samples from them. So, they came in the mail the other day, and when I put the two samples together guess what?!?! The invitations are too big for the pocketfolds! Apparently, vistaprints 5x7's aren't true to size! They are actually like 4.72x7.28!! What the heck am I gonna do? Any idea where I can get pocketfolds that will fit that? I had thought about just making them, but when I look at the diagrams, I get overwelmed. I need to figured it out soon b/c I need to have them mailed out in the next few weeks. I'd really rather not cut my invitations...I'm afraid you will be able to tell. Help Help Help! I know you ladies will have some insight for me..I can always count on yall!

Can VP exchange them for u so they fit, and put a rush order on it? It is their fault, right?

Do you have to have pocketfolds? Maybe just get a cardstock and give the invitation a backing then stack your additional cards on top and close with a belly band.

OH NO!!! Is there anyway to speak with Vista Print and have them reprint them true to size?? That is a pretty big difference when measuring is crucial..... Or can you trim a little from the length of the 7.28" and have a border in the pocket fold? Sorry Shea! I am sure the woman here will have lots of other great suggestions!

VP isn't going to cut them true to size -- too big a print company to change things for one person.

You can see if a print shop could cut them, or use a large cutter like teachers have in schools -- more efficient and a clean cut. I know other ladies have been able to use the VP invites with cardsandpockets, so perhaps search the forums for that? The search box is on the right, under the Topics box.

I haven't ordered them yet. The samples say 5x7, but they are a little off, which is a big deal when they are going in a pocketfold. I really wanted pocketfolds. I love the clean look, plus I have enclosures and such that I wanted in there, and like the idea of having it in a nice package. I don't want someone to pull out the invitation and all the enclosures fall out Smiley sad I guess I might have to cut them....that just horrifies me!!!

@Reenski I am searching through them now. No such luck yet. Doesn't sound like anyone else has had this problem? Hmmm....maybe I'm just losing it

FedEX/Kinkos will cut them to size for next to nothing, probably just a few cents per page.

So a little bird told me... there doesn't seem to be a way to make the two fit, so it's either cut them OR get a larger size pocket fold to use. Some brides have mounted the invite on some fancy/pretty paper and then put the two together into some of the larger pocketfolds.

This is the post I was pointed to: https://www.weddingwire.com/wedding-forums/printing-invites-on-vp-if-you-are-using-pocketfold/c33afcea82d2f3c1.html

But if not, sounds like Candice's suggestion is a good one.

Thank you. I might know who that lil bird is *wink wink....I had already read that post and looked at the sites she lighted and think I might have to just order the larger size. Problem is they are almost 3x more expensive than the 5x7s! Eek! Maybe kinkos is the way to go.

I'd go try with Kinko's first.

If I end up doing the 5x7 pocketfolds and cut them down, should I skip putting a mat under it, since the invitation will go from top to bottom with no space, except a little on the sides? I don't want to over or under do it. This part is much more stressful than I anticipated. I thought for sure I'd just breeze right through the invites b/c its the one thing I knew I wanted a certain way. Ha! a woman can dream, right?

I did my own pockets fold invites. I got all the card stock and text paper from paper and more and bought a big paper cutter for cheap at a craft store. It wasn't that bad. I love how they turned out. I got the pretty simmer paper. Smiley smile

Oh yeah and for a little extra paper and more will cut all the paper to the size you need for the pocket folds.

I wouldn't put a mat behind it, precisely because it wouldn't be seen. Also, the weight could make a difference in postage, so I'd skip it.

@Nicole, did you order your invites from vistaprint? If I do the pocketfolds myself, I'm afraid ill start with the wrong size paper, and screw it all up

What should I do about envelopes then? I was planning on ordering those through vp with my invites (which I will be cutting down in size). Do you think the pocket fold will fit in there or should I order larger envelopes? If so, what size?

The pockets from paper and more are a little bigger than the cards and pockets ones, just an FYI. Not sure of the exact measurements until I can get home, though.

    @beth

The pockets from paper and more say they are 5x7, just like cards and pockets. They say they are both "A7", whatever that means! It'd be really nice if they were slightly bigger...that'd solve my problem without having to cut my beautiful invitations! Envelopes on the otherhand..

I bought my pocketfolds from cards and pockets... with no mat the invitation should be 4.75 by 6.75 but with a mat they should be 4.5 by 6.5. (all the measurements are on cardandpockets.com) If you haven't already id recommend ordering a sample pocketfold from cards and pockets so you can figure out sizing.

Cards and pockets will print your design on that size paper for you (not sure of cost) or try kinkos. You can go SLIGHTLY longer by like 1/8th of an inch because of the fold seems. or if you don't want much of a mat edge to show through.

If i were you i'd do kinkos or have them printed at the right size instead of trying to find a bigger pocketfold because if the pocketfold is bigger, it won't fit in the normal envelope size.

I got all my paper and envelopes from cards and pockets - they are amazing quality. Their paper is awesome quality and heavier then normal 110lb cardstock but even with all that i still only needed a 66 cent stamp.

If there is enough margin that it won't affect the design, you can have them trimmed to fit.
