Help!! I need a tan and can't go in a tanning bed!!

Vanessa, on March 24, 2011 at 1:55 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 14

I am getting married June 26. I have my dress and its strapless so I really need to have a nice tan (for some reason this winter I got pasty white lol). I am also pregnant and so I can't use a tanning bed. I live in upstate NY so I don't have much time to tan naturally. Any suggestions on how to get a nice looking tan without looking orange?

Get a high quality spray tan. A good airbrush artist can make it look natural and flawless.

I've heard good things about newer spray tans. I'm trying it out in 2 weeks so I'll let you know if it makes me orange!

I own my own business doing custom airbrush tans. I'm on the wrong coast or I would totally help you out!! Look for an airbrush tan, not the booth, and make sure that you do a trial run. Ask what percentage they are using, and make sure they know how to match the percentage of DHA with their clients skin tone. The reason people turn orange is because they use too high a percentage for their skin type. If you are super white, you need a lower percentage with maybe a few coats, instead of a higher percentage that will turn you orange in just one coat. Ask them what brand solution they use, if you have any questions I can try and help you out. I sampled about 20 brands before I picked my solution that I use on my clients.

    Hope that helps!

    OH!

And... IMO spray tan is safe for pregnant women...

I actually worked as a tan tech while I was pregnant with my last son. HOWEVER, I do highly recommend that you wear a mask while you get tanned up until the point where they quickly tan your face. It does not get absorbed into your blood stream unless through a direct mucus membrane IE... nose, mouth, eyes, gentalia etc... So just a thought for you. Keep everything closed or covered. LOL hope that makes sense!

    Thanks for the advice!

Sunnie - I really appreciate the info. I know nothing about spray tanning as I usually tan very nicely in the summer so its not an issue. Will definately do some research on places around here and may be back with questions.

Versa Spray tanning is great. I have been doing it since February and it looks really natural and not too dark. I got an unlimited monthly package for $50/month.

If you are pregnant DO NOT GET A SPRAY TAN!! That is a hazard to your baby! Those chemicals can cause birth defects in an infant. Organize your schedule and go on a day trip to a place with some sun. By June there should be plenty of sun.

They have natural organic spray tans now that are not harmful to the baby... call your local tanning salons and look into it. Just make sure that you have it airbrushed my a person and not a machine.

Since the DHA affects the first layer of the skin only, the sugar-based chemical is not absorbed into the body and cannot reach the fetus. Thus it should be safe to use as long as the chemical does not penetrate the skin and as long as absorption does not occur. Hence what I said about making sure all mucus membranes are covered just to be on the safe side.

I am trying a self-tanning spray, lol. I've done something similar before and it worked out great, but I'm going to practice since that was in high school! Usually, I just tan at the pool, but with limited time and not wanting tan lines...I'm aiming for self-tan, with maybe some assistance from my handy little sister (she gets to do my backside, lmao).

I have worked in a tanning salon and we had pregnat people tan the would only go for 5 min at a time the first lasy who tanned i freaked out because i thought i was killing her baby or something by selling her tans then realizing it was a baby bump not just s more to love bump.... talk to your dr. and of course do as they say but from what my boss at the salon had told me it is the concept of over heating while pregnant not the actual tanning if you find the right salon and the right bed their are high preformance beds that dont take as long to tan you and be sure the bed has a fan on it and to keep it on....also if you go this route find a salon that selld by the minutes not by per tan. good luck!
