Help! i can't find a dress

Adrienne, on August 20, 2019 at 6:30 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 8
I have tried on close to 100 dresses and can't seem to find The One. My mom ends up liking dresses that I don't 100% like. I went to a bridal salon with just my maid of honor and found a ball gown that I really liked because it was so over the top and different from what I had been trying (fit and flares with beading and glitter tulle). I really wanted a dress with an illusion back and long train for some drama but it also had to have beading. This ball gown has a unique back, beading, lace, a LONG train, buttons all down the back, and glitter tulle! When I took my mom in, she wrinkled her nose at it and said it didn't give me as nice of a figure as the fit and flares. Now I'm second guessing my choice of dress. She stopped talking to me the rest of the day and I've been crying all day thinking that I have to start at square one all over again. I have less than 9 months to my wedding day now and am feeling even more pressure to find a gown and thinking I'm just going to have to settle and hate my dress. What do I do? I am seriously so upset and have no clue how I'm going to find my dream dress.

The dress you found with your MOH sounds like a dress you really loved. Unfortunately you might have to let what your mom says go. If you LOVE it you should buy it and she will either grow to love it or not. Bottom line is that it’s YOUR day and you should get what you want. I didn’t take anyone with me for that reason and nobody saw my dress until my wedding day. Too many opinions. Good luck.

This is your wedding dress, not your mom's. Choose the dress you genuinely love! I agree with PP that you need to not take your mom's dress opinions more seriously than your own. This is your decision to make Smiley smile

Your mom isn't wearing your dress, you are, so only what you feel about the dress matters. I'm really hoping your mom just had other things going on that distracted her, because if she really was mad enough to not talk to you because you found something you love, I'd be really concerned. It sounds manipulative in a very passive aggressive way, and if that is how she is going to treat you, I'd personally shut her out of all wedding planning all together.

You gotta stop obsessing over what your mom likes. I know it’d be nice to have her approval but live your life for you. This is YOUR wedding!!! Wear what makes you feel beautiful and what you love!

It’s not what your mom would wear but it’s not her dress. I know it feels really bad when people don’t approve of your dress. Back when I was going to elope my mom said my elopement dress basically sucks, that it made me look like a “little girl”, you can’t please everyone hun, only yourself. Buy the dress that makes you happy.

It sounds like you truly love the ball gown that you tried on! While it's nice to get your mom's approval, it's ultimately your day and your dress. You should get what makes you feel beautiful! Best of luck girl!

I would go back to that dress you really liked! I bought my dress by myself, and when I showed it to my mom, she was kinda like, lol, what is this? Because it wasn't a white dress (champagne and ivory) and it had spaghetti straps. But, I think it grew on her, and in the end, it's your day, not hers. I would go back to that dress you really liked, and try it on again to see if you still love it.
