Help: how to accessorize a simple slip wedding dress??

Lindsey, on May 21, 2021 at 1:52 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 22

Hello! I have been through the wringer trying to find a dress before my wedding at the end of July. Praise the Lord I finally found a dress that I love! That problem is, I am really struggling with how I should accessorize. It's a simple slip dress, so it's hard to find inspiration online because it's not a traditional bridal gown. I want to have a loose updo and definitely want a veil, but don't know what jewelry/hair accessories to go with. I love pearls and sparkle and want something more dramatic since the dress is so simple, but also don't want the jewelry to not go with the dress. Also would silver or gold be better? (necklace in the picture is just a normal necklace I have, not looking to wear for wedding day) Open to all suggestions!!

Oh wow! That dress looks amazing on you!

Idk if I would wear a necklace with it tbh. Maybe some dangle earrings and the style could vary from something more contemporary, minimalist or glam depending on the look you’re going for. Also I would personally go with silver.

Beautiful dress! I've always loved back necklaces with that kind of simple low-back style. Something like this, although I think silver/white gold might go better with your skin tone (cool/fair?) - but it's a bit hard to tell from photos.

Plunging necklines go with V shaped necklaces. Since you love pearls, you could go with a three tiered pearl strand necklace or a waterfall necklace. Personally, I would go big here. I never wear jewellery, but how often can you wear big lavish necklaces? The effortless elegance of the dress lends itself to a 'Holly Golightly' image this big statement pieces.

Bhldn has some cool separates that you might consider to wear over your dress for ceremony and then take off for reception.

I know you asked for jewelry but I just absolutely LOVE your dress and could picture a sheer shrug or something!

I think a pair of statement dangle earrings and a simple back necklace (would be so cool with your low-back dress) would look great!

Thank you!! I love those earrings, I was looking at some similar to that style. I agree that straight earring of some sort would go well with the dress. Thank you for the help!

Second this, this style is the first thing I thought of when I saw the back of that dress! Maybe something with pearls in the front and a delicate chain trailing down the back like this one?

There's also some that it appears you can attach to the back of whatever necklace you like:

Also agree with Marianne, statement earrings with a simple, delicate back necklace would be another really pretty option.

I never considered a low-back necklace until now!! So pretty. From looking at photos, you are right I think silver may look better as my skin leans more cool.

I LOVE your dress. I'm going to wear something similar as my second/rehearsal dress (original dress purchased for our wedding last year fits a bit tight now).

Adding a veil is so smart. I love super minimal chic wedding dresses but they sometimes don't feel bridal enough until the veil is added and then "boom!" you get a full modern wedding look. I love the idea of an updo. If you plan to remove your veil at any point I think some additional hair bling (decorative hair pins, hair vine, hair comb) would add some glam.

If you have pierced ears (I don't, what a conundrum when accessorizing a bridal look), I think statement earrings would be super pretty and add a lot of wow factor without taking away from the dress. Depending on the earrings, you could skip the necklace entirely (big bold earrings would be pretty on their own). If you go with a necklace, I think something simple vs a statement necklace would be best because I think a big necklace would compete too much with the dress. I would go, veil/hair piece, bold dangling statement earrings, a bracelet (tennis style or similar), and your rings.

As for jewelry color, go with whatever flatters your skin tone best and/or match your e-ring and wedding band.

Beautiful dress! You could add a pearl/embellished veil.
