Help! How do i make my wedding look good?

Mckenzie, on June 6, 2019 at 1:41 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 10
Hi, all!

I'm having a veryyy hard time with decorations and theme and colors ... all of it. I have an idea of what I like in my mind, but I have no clue if it'll look good. How did you decide? I have a wedding planner but haven't heard much from her in that regard. How do I know what rentals to get? It's easy to find it on Pinterest but to make it come to life gives me anxiety ha. And I'm only about four months out.

I thought the point of a wedding planner was for them to do all of those things? If your planner isn't, then what are they doing? Sorry you are having anxiety. Try to relax and trust things will work out. I didn't even start working on decor until 2 weeks ago, and I am 22 days out, lol.

Oh no! I decided we wanted rustic chic because it was super adorbs and affordable. I knew I wanted simplicity also. I am not going over board. Just adding a touch to the venue. The venue we chose is a barn venue and it already has oldie but goodie pics on the wall and all things old. So it looks pretty bad ass to me. So we are just putting a small touch to the table with burlap table runners and a tin bucket centerpiece with flowers. But I agree with PP you have a planner put her to work!

What are your favorite colors? What is your venue like? Those can help determine what direction you can go...

I chose burgundy for my October wedding because I thought it was a classic fall color and then realized that everybody and their sister has also picked it the past few years Smiley laugh I still love it so it doesn't bother me. We don't really have a theme necessarily, but will be using greenery and just simple classic items since I'm not super into trends.

Google your venue and see how other people have done their weddings there. I was super worried about the decor until I started looking at photos of other real weddings (not styled photo shoots, which is what social media is full of)

My rules for decor are: no mason jar centerpieces, no wine bottles, no fish bowls, and no curly wedding font. Everything else is fair game.

    Hi

I think your wedding planner should be helping you with that stuff, so it can't hurt to contact them and clarify what their role is

My fiance and I took to the internet to look for color combos. He loves the color green and asked that we find a nice green to use so we decided on sage. When looking for colors that complimented it we found lavender and plumb and that's how we decided on our colors. I knew I wanted a rustic woodsy feel to the decor so we are using wood rounds with Moss and vintage glass bottles with a spring of faux lavender and faux eucalyptus plants. As far as the rest of our venue, it is an outdoor, covered patio on a mountain so we have the scenery and I have some extra bottles and plants that I will put around the dessert table and whatnot.

It took me a long time to put it all together but once we made the decision of what we were going for, it all came together.

    This is GORGEOUS!!! Oh wow!

Back to the original question though-- firstly yes, your wedding planner should be helping you put your decor together! Get a list of all the theme necessities: colour scheme, style (e.g. rustic, traditional...), the atmosphere you want (family, glamorous, party...) and the planner should do the rest for you! You've got to know what you want to start out, but the rest of the hard work is on the planner! Colour schemes work best when they're consistent. Any colours will look good if the decor matches... a good planner can make a neon-green-and-purple wedding tasteful.

It can also be helpful to make a list of what you know you'll need. Table runners/tablecloths, serviettes, centrepieces, charger plates, all that stuff. Having a list of specific items that you need in a specific colour or style will make it a lot easier to search for, and narrow down, your decor choices. It might also be worth keeping separate Pinterest boards for separate items-- i.e. have one for centrepieces, one for tableware... it'll make it a lot easier to keep track of how prepared you are, and a lot easier to rule out anything you no longer want.
