HELP: How do I include my brother???

Amber, on January 22, 2017 at 8:19 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 23

Hi everyone! So I'm having a hard time finding a role for my brother in our wedding. My brother and I are very close, like best friends. My fiance and him get along but are very different. My fiance does not plan on asking him to be in the wedding party. I think my brother's feelings were hurt because of this. What are your ideas on ways I can include him and make him feel special. It's important to me that he's involved. Thanks everyone!

You could have him stand on your side.

If you want him involved, and are very close then you could have him on your side at the wedding. He doesn't have to be on the grooms side. You could also ask him to do a reading at the ceremony or something.

That's not weird since he's a guy? Obviously I wouldn't make him wear a dress LOL but do you think it would be uncomfortable for him to be on the woman's side ??? I thought about that a lot... I'm torn...

Serve as a witness and sign your wedding document.

Have him stand on your side. This is becoming so common and I think it's the best way to honor the close relationship you two have. Mine is a groomsman but he'll be giving the toast on my behalf instead of my MOH.

No, it's not weird at all. It actually happens a lot and it's completely fine! If he personally feels uncomfortable with it for some reason then he has the option to say no, but there's nothing wrong with it.

It's not weird, plenty of people do it, myself included. Excluding important people from your BP because of their gender is silly.

Have him be in the bridal party but stand on your side. Or he could do a reading during the ceremony.

My brothers will be escorting our mother and grandmother, and my third brother will be doing a reading.

A reading would be a great idea. A scripture or wedding poem would be perfectm

Did you ask your FH if he would consider asking your brother to be a groomsmen even if it causes you to have uneven sides?

Have him be your bridesman, as others have suggested. My brothers were my Man of Honor and Bridesmen, and it worked out perfectly.
