Help! Has anyone had an evening, outdoor wedding?

Maranda, on June 3, 2012 at 4:10 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 14

So, my wedding is Sept. 29th this year and we're thinking about having the ceremony at our reception venue which is a golf course/country club. We're thinking of having the ceremony at 7pm so that it's already dark outside, there will be a full moon that night and we want to decorate with candles and twinkly lights. Has anyone ever done this? Does anyone have any suggestions about how else to decorate or anything?

If its already going to be dark there have u looked into uplighting/candles? Make sure u check with your venue to see what they allow

FH and I went to an evening outdoor wedding last year. The bride/groom candles lanterns and Christmas lights as decorations. FH and I commented on them all during the ceremony. It was very nice and romantic.

Was there enough lighting with that? Did they have a gazebo or anything? We're not sure on how we want to do this yet. We were planning on having an afternoon ceremony and just decided last week that we wanted it in the evening.

There was a gazebo which had Christmas lights as well. I don't know what it's like in Indiana, but in California, it's dusk at 7:00 pm so there was really no need for too much artificial light.

    The reception was held indoors.

Make sure to discuss it with your photographer. Low light is a challenge that pros can handle if they know about it in advance.

Our venue posted some recent pics of an evening wedding on their fb page. I love the idea! Like Dawn, we'll be getting married at sunset.

I love the idea; just make sure your officiant ha enough light too! One of my couples bought me a tiny little book light from Ikea, to use in a very low lit restaurant, and it was perfect!

Maranda, it sounds beautifully romantic. If you are hiring a photographer, you definitely want to check out their images with low light situations. Also, you need to have realistic expectations of what you can expect from your photographer. I can say that a lesser experienced photographer with lesser quality equipment will not be able to handle a low light situation and give you the beautiful types of photos you may be imagining. Shooting in the dark with a flash on the camera will give a very one dimensional image...so having experience with off camera lighting will be key.

I'd be happy to discuss more detail with you through email if you like. I'm in Florida and already booked for your date, so this isn't a solicitation...just trying to help. Smiley winking

That's sort of what I was thinking for on the gazebo... A few lanterns. Then I want some Shepard's hooks along the aisle with candle lanterns hanging and some white Christmas lights on the gazebo. I also want some potted trees either on both sides at the beginning of the aisle or on either side of the gazebo and I want fairy berries ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y9nCselgIZ0 ) everywhere to give it a more enchanted forest sort of look.

@ Stephanie- I hadn't even thought about what a hassle it might be for our photographer. I'll have to speak with him about. And yes, my e-mail is **********@***.***. Smiley smile Thank you!
