So that is the dress (I ordered a new size since these pictures because I lost too much weight). It does have those thin straps to help hang it up, but the dress is so heavy they just pull the dress really bad and slip off the hanger.

Has anybody dealt with this issue? How did you fix it / could you fix it?

Do you have a different hanger you could use? One that has slots cut into the top of it so that the thin straps don't slide off?

My dress was super heavy and broke the hangers. I think I ended up putting three together and putting it on that way. My fiancé got me the felt hangers and they don’t slip off it. But they did break easily and we couldn’t find thicker ones anywhere local.

Use wooden hangers with grooves for the little strings.

I have tried a couple different hangers, all of which do have those cut outs, but they aren't deep so they still can slide out.

I have tried those, it pulls the dress too much and they still mange to slip off (the strings are also in a weird place, where you have to still go through the dress)

I've never used felt ones, I will try that!

Dang maybe you can store it laying flat somewhere.

Maybe also try crossing the thin straps over the top of the hanger? That would prevent them from sliding off, though depending on where the straps are on the dress, this might not be an option.

I was actually told by the bridal boutique I purchase my dress from that the best way to store your gown is to NOT leave it on the hanger. They said leaving it on the hanger for an extended amount of time (especially if the dress is heavy) could stretch out and/or warp the delicate material on the shoulder (ie, It could stretch out the shoulder/upper sleeve area which could cause bunching or puckering in the material). They said the best way to store your dress is either in a breathable garment bag or wrapped in a sheet, and laid flat.

Yea, I am currently laying it flat, but I am just thinking about when I hang it up for pictures at my actual wedding, if that makes sense.

I store my relatively heavy dress by laying down to avoid getting ruined by the hanger since the wedding renewal is postponed to unknown date.

I replaced my hanger with ikea white colored wooden hanger. I decorated the hanger a bit to make it more “bridal”.

Also, is there a ribbon loop somewhere under the train? In daughter's dress it was sewn to the inside middle back seam of the skirt, toward where the skirt would hit the floor before the train started. If it does, that loop should also go over the hook of the hanger to take some of the weight off the thin ribbons at the shoulder or underarm seams. Daughter picked her dress up about a year before the wedding. The woman at the bridal salon told her to keep it on the hanger, but to ALWAYS use all three loops over the hook of the heavy duty wooden hanger the dress came on. (And, then keep the hanging dress inside the white cotton garment bag the dress came in.)
