Help! Dress issue

Lulu, on June 25, 2019 at 8:09 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 18
Hi girls! Ok, so a few weeks ago I went dress shopping and found a dress I liked...except it was. “Ivory/nude” which looked creme...I liked the style of the dress but not the color! I made it clear. The lady that helped with my fitting said the dress was available in “ivory/ivory” and found a material that she put under the sheer part of the dress to show me what this would look like...which seemed “white” perfect! Paid for it in full, and the order has been confirmed...however I’ve been searching on line trying to find this dress in “ivory/ivory” and all I see is a creme looking one! I am freaking out now. Has anyone experienced anything similar? How did you handle it? What if I get the dress and it’s still creme!?

If you're only finding pictures from the designer, it's likely that they only use that one color for advertising purposes. Do you have the item number or the name of the dress? It may be better to look it up on Instagram or a bridal resale site where you can find photos from real brides.

The good news is that you 9 months out from your wedding, so if the dress isn't what you ordered, you have time to either reorder or find another dress. I really hope it comes in as the ivory/ivory you ordered!

I had the exact same issue. The sample I tried on was champagne/ivory and I ordered ivory/ivory. I also scoured google, Instagram and anywhere else I could think of and could not find a picture of it in that color at all. I was nervous for my first fitting last month, but when I saw the dress, all my nerves went away because it was beautiful. I’m sure yours will be the same.

My dress also came in both colours and there are no photos of the ivory/ivory online. I even messaged the designer directly (Kenneth Winston) on Instagram to ask for a photo and even he didn't have any. Look at other dresses by the same designer in the ivory/ivory and you will get a feel for the colour.

Often, the designer site has photos of the dress in one of the "higher contrast" color options, because the details of lace, etc., are MUCH more obvious -- especially in photos -- that way. Daughter's dress came in ivory over pale gold, ivory over ivory, and white over white. She specifically wanted the ivory over gold, so not a problem for her, but that's the ONLY option in any of the designer's photographs. If they ordered you ivory/ivory, I'd expect it to be the combination you're hoping for. As others have suggested, you can look for the dress on sites other than the designer's, but honestly, it's really hard to get a true idea of what the colors look like in photographs because of the variations in lighting (in the wedding pics, daughter's dress looks like so many variations of ivory that from any one picture you can really tell what it looked like in person -- except beautiful! Smiley winking ). Try to relax until your dress arrives -- there's really not much you can do about it now, anyway, except drive yourself a little bit crazy. Good luck, I'm sure it will be gorgeous! Smiley heart

I did jsut a really quick search and I was also unable to find any photos of it, BUT on all the listings they claim the dress is Ivory/Nude with the other option being Ivory/Ivory. I think you will be 100% ok!! Like another said, they could just chose to use the Ivory/Nude for advertisement, this might help them show all the details in the dress.

Thank you everyone! I love the idea of searching on actual websites..I found same brand ivory/ivory and on the designers images it still looks creme, but on pictures posted by original owner it looks more white...I hope that’s the case thank you all

It was definitely more the color I wanted. My face looks awful in both pics, but left is sample and right is actual dress.

Ivory these days is typically a soft white. So if the stylist pulled ivory from the same designer and it looked white enough to you, you’re fine! You probably can’t find a pic online because a designer won’t have a dress made in every color they offer—only their favorite color for that dress. Usually two-toned because it shows the detail better in the shop & in photos. Breathe! 😊

My dress is advertised all over the place as honey underlay with ivory lace but there's about 10 different options to choose from that they don't have pictures of including ivory/ivory and white/white. I have seen pictures of real brides wearing the ivory/ivory version even though the designer doesn't have pictures of that version. You should be fine!
