Help! Dress alterations fail!

*sayre_ah*, on August 31, 2018 at 11:14 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 7
I’m freaking out. I got my dress and all I can see is the built in corset (that came with the dress) and where it ends. It looks like I have a big pooch and I don’t. The seamstress says she doesn’t see it so she is no help. Does anyone have any ideas on how I can fix this?

Hm... I too am not seeing any type of bulge where the corset ends. I’m truly trying to find it and maybe (and this is a bug maybe) I can see the lace pattern change 3 or so inches below the belt. However, no one would notice this, and like I said I’m TRYING with all my might to find something and can’t. I think it’s more noticeable to you because you know exactly where it ends. Have any of your friends/family seen it in person and have thoughts? I truly think the dress looks gorgeous on you and no one would be drawn to your mid-section!

Do you have a slip? That might make it not as noticeable.

I dont think it is as noticeable as you think. HOWEVER, you paid for this alteration, so I would talk to her again, or a manager and tell her you aren’t satisfied.

I guess my title was misleading. That’s how the dress came. And the corset is built in so I don’t think I can put anything in between

It could be that the bodice of the dress is too long for you. They might need to shorten the boning, which I believe is an easy fix. I had a similar situation since I am short and have a small torso, but my issue was on the sides (by the hips) where the corset was sticking out. My seamstress removed the boning from the sides (I probably wouldn’t remove the boning in your case though since it is in the front). Definitely talk to your seamstress she is the one that knows what is the best way to fix it. And honestly I barely see it, looks gorgeous!

I don't see the bulge, but if I am looking closely, I can see where the corset ends and it looks"unlined" under that? Like there is nothing behind the lace? It may just be the lighting though. Could she line it from the corset down to change that?

Your dress is gorgeous, by the way. Why are we are own worst critics??

Your dress looks fabulous on you! I have the same problem with my dress though. The built in corset shows slightly because of the boning, but there really isn't much to do about it. I asked the boutique where I got my dress if it could be altered and they said it's just going to be there no matter what. It's really not as noticeable as you think, I can promise you that. I thought the exact same thing and freaked, but no one else could see what I was saying except for the consultants who work with dresses every day.

If you are uncomfortable, definitely get a second opinion if needed.
