I’m sure we all have a tragic story or ten related to COVID and all that it has robbed from us. My wedding was supposed to be May 23 but that state I was getting married in had a stay at home order until June 10th.
Needless to say, it’s been a roller coaster of emotions and countless phone calls and tears later, our situation still feels hopeless. We paid our venue in three installments, all of which were complete before COVID became a thing. As a result, we lost our bargaining power. We are the in the subset of customers who paid for a service that the venue could not provide in any form and we are not getting a refund and are only offered “left over” and undesirable dates; we are not offered an equivalent wedding date. Furthermore I work in a field with very little flexibility for vacation and weekend time off so anything but a Saturday wedding simply won’t work.
It’s just a thought that anyone who is booking a wedding now, you have the power the COVID brides wish they had. If you haven’t paid them everything yet, you are in a strong position. Perhaps if you want to help a COVID bride out, you can ask the venue if they have accommodated the COVID brides with an equivalent date.
