Help! Can’t get a hold of my vendor for bartending services.

Angela, on May 31, 2019 at 1:08 AM Posted in Planning 0 6
Hi wonderful people,

I need advice. I hired a bartending service several months ago for my September wedding reception. In the hiring stages, the guy working with me was very quick to answer questions and provided a professional contract. I have already paid a deposit. I realized I may want to add a second bar tender and had some additional questions, so I sent an email ONE MONTH ago, and another last week to follow up. Still no response. Today, I sent a message to him on Thumbtack (the service app I originally found the company on). Stilllllll nothing. 🙁 Tomorrow I will call the phone number I have, but seriously?!!

What do I do? Every other vendor I’ve hired at least will at least reply to me, even if it’s jist to say “got the message and will reply later”. This is stressing me out! I don’t want to give up my deposit because we are on a tight budget, but should I be considering a new company? Not pleased about this one bit. On the bright side, it’s the first (and hopefully last) vendor issue I’ve had.

What would you do if you were me?

Call first. Freak out later. Smiley smile
    But seriously, call.
Check to make sure they haven't gone out of business.
If he has a social media page, poke around there to see if anyone else is mentioning any similar issues.
If he's nearby and has a place of business, drop in.
Don't freak out til you've exhausted your options.

I’m having this problem with my actual venue. The guy was gracious and accommodating when we first spoke, during our last conversation via email he assured me a contract and way to pay in 2 weeks... that came and went and I called. And called. Called again. Always getting his secretary. Then I emailed twice. And 3 months later!!!! He sent me a vague email stating my date is pretty much held and he’ll get back to me soon - no need for my stress. Scheduled to walk the venue with him and my DOC and he was a no show even though he was working that day he was conveniently nowhere to be found. It’s now 6 months past our first convos and 83 days until the wedding. Still no contract and nothing paid. I’m not freaking out but it’s my only non (officially with contract) confirmed vendor.

Call. Email isn't the best method of communication for everyone.

Hard as it is to believe these days, not everyone does email. Or not that often. Especially because this is a business, you should call. Never leave an important question or change hanging in the balance because of an unanswered email. Maybe this guy just isn't all that tech savvy, or he's old school and prefers talking on the phone.

Don't think badly of him until you still can't get a response after a phone call.

Update: Thanks for your reassurance, all, and you could not be more right. I received a sincere apology today and a promise that my questions would be answered this weekend. I think I’m just getting anxious about all the finalizing details that need to happen as we grow closer to the big day. Thanks again for talking sanity back into my head. Funny, the major stuff was relatively simple, but it’s the lonnnng list of close-to-the-wedding stuff that makes me more anxious.

Oh man that’s hard. I would NOT be able to handle that. I just know I’d be freaking out. Since his secretary is the one you usually get a hold of, can you ask her directly? Like ask her for a day and time to come pick up the contract, sign it, pay deposit etc.? Hang in there! Hugs.
