Help!! Brides wearing flats

Hello brides! I’m getting married next year at a winery so I was very set on wearing flats because 1) heels are so uncomfortable for me and I don’t want to be miserable all day bc my feet hurt 2) the grounds of our venue would be hard to walk in with heels and 3) I don’t want to be taller than my...
Hello brides! I’m getting married next year at a winery so I was very set on wearing flats because 1) heels are so uncomfortable for me and I don’t want to be miserable all day bc my feet hurt 2) the grounds of our venue would be hard to walk in with heels and 3) I don’t want to be taller than my FH. BUT, the issue I’m having is that everyone is telling me that I need to wear heels because flats will ruin the look of my dress. I’m 5’4 so I’m not that tall. I’m worried that if I wear flats, I will look short and stumpy whereas heels will make me look elongated - if that makes sense. I’m so conflicted on what to do. I thought maybe wearing a block heel for the wedding would be a bit more comfortable than a stiletto, but IMO, flats will always be the most comfortable option.

Anyway, I guess my question is... is it true that wearing flats will affect the way I look in my dress? Will wearing at least a 2-3 inch heel make me look nicer? At first I thought my family was crazy but now that I think about it I think I understand what they mean. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I don't think it will ruin the look of your dress. I am wearing cowgirl boots so there is little to no heel and I am only 5'2". I decided to go with boots because of our venue (all out doors with grass everywhere) and the fact I can't walk in heels to save my life.

I wore flats and I'm 5'3. I feel like it didn't affect the way I looked in my dress but at same time I still felt like my dress was so long aha

I do get the point about flats. We naturally walk and stand differently in flats than in heels. And I agree that wearing heels elongates the body and causes you to stand more poised and upright. While flats create a more casual stance and gait, not as elegant. So a compromise is a short heel, max of 2 inches.

I am 5'3 and wearing sneakers for my wedding, my FH is 6 foot and so I wouldn't be taller than him anyways if I wore heals but like most people said your shoes probably wont even show. I did consider wearing heals for part of the day either a chunky heal or a wedge for support (on grass for ceremony) Like most I am going for comfort. did you wear shoes when you bought your dress? if like most you were barefoot for dress shopping and you loved your dress then you should still love how you feel in it on your wedding day regardless of footwear!

I'm 5'1 and wearing flats. I have a mermaid style dress and my fiancé and I love our height difference so I'm not worried about heels. Besides...I suck at them and my fiance said don't wear them before I trip down the aisle. LOL

I think it all depends on how you look in the style of dress you picked. IMO, wear flats. No one will see them so no "look" will be ruined. I wont even be wearing shoes (it's on the beach). But if you feel stumpy when you put your dress on, maybe just try like a kitten heel/wedge. Or depending on your style, go for some platforms!

Could you try on your dress with a pair of flats and a shorter heeled shoe or wedge? Doesn’t need to be the exact pair you’ll wear on your big day. Trying on your dress with different shoes and seeing it in the mirror and/or having someone take a few pics might help you decide how you feel best! 😊

Wellll the only problem is my dress doesn’t come in until April :\. But so I bought these flats during the Black Friday sale and I only have 30 days to return them. So that’s why I’m trying to figure out if I should return them and wear a block heel for the wedding, or keep the flats and wear those. I just didn’t want to keep the flats and then get stuck with them and not even use them on the wedding day. They were $230 :\. Maybe I could go back to the bridal shop and try on the sample dress with flats and then with heels. It’s just so hard to tell with sample dresses cause they’re already too long haha.

Thank you so much! Yeah, I was thinking of only wearing heels for the ceremony but then if I change into flats for the reception my dress will be 3 inches too long and I‘ll basically have to hold my dress up the entire night. I think I need to go back to the bridal shop and try the dress with flats and heels!

Thank you! That’s what I was thinking too. Maybe a 2 inch block heel but all the ones I come across are 3 inches. Would that be too high?

Omg yes! That’s my biggest fear. I already can’t be in high heels for more than 2 hours. I don’t want to be miserable on my wedding day. I already have to wear extensions so my head will be aching. Can’t have both a headache and foot ache! lol. My family and MIL jusy really got to my head about my appearance in the dress. Sigh haha

Oh I saw those! I was thinking maybe I could get a kitten heel for the ceremony and platform keds for the reception. That way the height difference won’t be that significant and I won’t have to hold my dress up the entire night

A block heel is great because It’s more stable when walking. But the height will be based on your own personal comfort.

I wore flats. I'd originally gotten a cute pair of heels, but when I wore them to my first fitting and could barely walk and then nearly fell off the dress podium as she was pinning them hem I knew it wasn't going to work. I'm SO glad I wore flats. They were just as cute as the heels and I was so much more comfortable and felt more like me

I think it’s a great idea to go back and try the sample with the shoes you bought and a pair of heels! See if you see or feel any difference! Pay attention to your posture and your bum area to see if there’s any difference in either shoe style. I’m sure if you explain what you want to do and why the shop will find a way to squeeze you in to try on the sample. 😊

I’m going barefoot to my wedding because I don’t want to wear heels, spend the extra money on shoes I’ll wear once, and it’s a beach wedding. I say wear what you’re comfortable in! Screw societal standards of having to wear heels.
