Helium led balloons for exit? Logistics?

Sarah, on March 23, 2018 at 5:11 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 28

Hi all! I'm 3 months out TODAY from our wedding on June 23, 2018, and we are just putting the final pieces/touches together.

The biggest head-scratch for us is the send off. We are exiting at midnight, and the outside of the building is rather dark. Because of this, we thought something with lights would be great for pictures, but sparklers are not allowed at my venue. I don't like the look of the glow sticks and a bridesmaid of mine had pictures not turn out the way she wanted with those.

SO - we like the look of helium LED balloons like the following picture, but where the heck do you house 100 balloons during the reception? Who blows them up and has them ready, considering the LED's will need to be turned on and placed into the balloons as they are blown up? Logistically I'm trying to wrap my head around this idea, as I find the pics LOVELY.

Has anyone done this?

Not to be a debbie downer, This is actually frowned upon by Fish and Wildlife Service as it impacts wildlife and marine animals. It's actually illegal in some states.

I did not know this. I've never really released a balloon before, but I definitely won't now. Thanks for sharing!

I was just about to mention this! Balloons are so bad for our environment and wildlife! Maybe you could look into lanterns, or fake tea lights

Oh, I should have specified - the first picture is misleading. We only want people to hold the balloons, not release them! We figured we could make loops at the bottom of the balloon for people to attach to their wrists. That way they can clap and cheer or wave if they wanted with the balloon attached.

Yes of course, wouldn't want to have a bunch of latex AND helium lights getting in the hands of critters! Smiley heart

Lanterns to hold or the chinese lanterns? We aren't allowed to do the latter due to fire safety hazards at the venue unfortunately.

What are you going to do with all the balloons when you’re done, though?

We figure guests can take them with them back to their places - I saw somewhere where a couple had done it and the adults all reverted to kidlike behavior bopping the balloons and playing around since they're lit. Just an idea Smiley catface we are struggling hard between the dark area and the restrictions on other items!

But chances are a bunch of drunk people are going to think its a great idea to send them into the sky. I wouldn't do it, for that reason alone. You would need to hire a balloon designer to do this for you. I'm a DOC and no way would I take on this responsibility for a client, there are vendors for everything. I can get bogged down with a helium machine and controlling all of these balloons even with an assistant, there are other things that we should be doing.

    This.

I would not want to take the risk that these might be let go, or pay what would surely be a pretty penny for those balloons.

    The photare stunning though.

I see this turning into a logistical nightmare and $$$ to get them blown up, lighted, etc.

Please don’t do this. People are going to let them go. Whether on accident or on drunken purpose, there are other ideas and in many counties this is illegal because of the negative impact it has on the ecosystem. It’s littering and kills.

Yeah, that’s a great point about drunk and rowdy people. I hadn’t considered that! Thank you for sharing advice from your own DOC knowledge!

Can you share some other ideas? I’m having a hard time finding something cost-effective (around $150 for 100 people max) that will light up enough to be captured well on camera.

Our venue won’t let us do anything fire related due to California laws and fire safety hazards. So no sparklers, lanterns with flames, etc.

I don’t know how to edit my original post. But, right now we are thinking about seeing if our DJ can provide some cordless uplighting right outside the venue building to lighten it up, that way we can do rose petal exit.

What about paper lanterns with leds? I have Halloween ones I got at dollar tree with skeletons, there have to be normal pretty led ones out there too!

What comes up, must come down. Balloons are horrible for the environment and really unnecessary. Please think of something else to do that is less harmful to our planet
