HCG shots?

Jenn B, on April 21, 2015 at 3:54 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 40

While I am aware there is no "quick fix" and i've started my weight loss journey- which includes eating cleaner and hitting the gym- a guy I work with has lost 30 pounds the past two months from HCG injections and an appetite suppressant prescribed by a doctor. He suggested I try it.

Any of you tried something like that? Have results?

    1200?! holy hell. it's $149 here!

I wouldn't even mind 500.. I'm just trying to make the most of my 4 months before the wedding.

My parents and brother did it and saw great results. The diet part is a pain though and the suppressants are absolutely necessary. I didn't do it because it can make you even more fertile and I didn't want that risk.

I'm not familiar with HCG injections, but I was prescribed Qsymia (appetite suppressant) by my doctor about 1.5 years ago. It worked great, but despite my doctor trying multiple times to push it through my insurance, they just wouldn't cover it. It's a few hundred dollars a month and FH had just been laid off so that wouldn't fly. As a loophole, she prescribed the 2 meds Qsymia is made up of (Phentermine & Topiramate). Not sure which one, but I think the Topiramate, gave me severe cottonmouth and made my feet and hands tingle to the point that I couldn't sleep. It just wasn't worth it to me, so I'm still looking to get started losing weight the "right" way.

I had been on topamax (topiramate) for like 10 years for Migraines, Elyse- and the tingles are miserable. I saw the Qsymia was a combo with that drug, and just don't think I can do it again. It made me forget where I was going. It's sometimes known as "dumb-a-max."

HCG shots are not $1200!! Good luck finding the actual HCG - It comes in other names Novarel or Pregnyl. The actual HCG brand name is hard to find. A lot of pharmacies don't carry it anymore.

    Rosemary - Yes you're right!!

A lot of insurances cover the HCG so it shouldn't be that expensive.

I did HCG drops and HCG appetite suppressor in 2013 and it helped me lose 80 pounds.... and then i stopped doing it and gained it all back. So just be careful when doing anything that makes you drop weight fast!! Good luck!!!

Edit : I had the actual HCG brand, bought it online

I guess i should read a little more. I just saw HCG haha

No i bought the HCG drops which you take 10 drops 3 times a day and you put them under your tongue and leave it for one minute, take the HCG appetite suppressor and only eat 500 calories a day. It worked, and i lost weight fast.. but i gained it all back after 3-4 months of not using it.

I like quick weight loss as much as the next girl, but 500 calories a day isn't even enough to sustain you. stick to old fashioned diet and exersize unless you do want to gain it all back like leesha said. Losing weight is kind of like a life style change.

Really the key behind the whole thing is a 500 calorie diet during that time, which is not sustainable long term.Skip the HCG and just have what works out to a piece of string cheese and an apple three times a day. Until you hate everyone....

I highly recommend instead putting that money toward a fitbit or other activity tracker if you dont have one, and religiously logging calories on fitbit or myfitnesspal (Even with bad meals) It helps create great goals that are sustainable long term. So far I am down 3 lbs this month, and I'm not starving myself, and a total of about 40 pounds in a bit more than a year. It's not easy but it sustainable.

It's way better long term, and you are less likely to gain that (and maybe more) back.

    eta. more.

I feel like those injections are for people who need to loose weight as a way of you know...not dying from morbid obesity. I can't imagine how legitimate doctors are allowed to inject women who just need to loose 100 lbs or less.

I'm with ya'll on the lifestyle change- and for long term, my eating/exercise habits definitely need a change. I was just curious about how it worked... as my wedding is 4 months away and of course i've waited way too long to make a change. I have an appointment to learn more about it on Thursday.

KM, you have to have a BMI of over 25 to even be considered- but I get what you're saying.

I just feel like taking hormones is a slippery slope. Next thing you know thyroid shuts down and you end up with a bigger problem. Im all for appetite suppressants as a kick start...but really it should be a lifestyle change not a quick fix...

Just an update on the pricing- I have my consultation this afternoon but she sent me over how it works for those that were interested. Rosemary- I'm not sure why it's so expensive where you are..

For a new patient it is $200 for the first month and $150 every month after that. You will receive 2 HCG injections a week, 2 Lipotropic injections a week, 1 B12 injection a week. they give you 4 weeks worth of injections.

Is it really worth it to spend money on a short term fix? This sort of thing just scares me.
