Hawaiian Shirt

Anne, on September 1, 2016 at 5:01 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 12

Is anyone's FH wearing a Hawaiian shirt for the ceremony? If so, what are your feelings about it? I'm a but bothered but it's just his style. FH doesn't want to dress up. He wears a HS at least 2-3x a week as it is.

Ceremony is at a private residence with just family and close friends (no more than 40 folks) I'm wearing a sheath dress and veil with heels. I found a nice looking Tommy Bahama shirt for him. Still on the hunt for khakis. I hope we are not alone in this clothing choice. Oh and we are getting married in the mountains not on the beach.

I say if it makes him happy and comfortable, go for it. It's his wedding too. And there's not much of an in-between compromise with hawaiian shirt/tux. I don't think it has to be a beach wedding to fit. Especially if that's his norm, your guests know him and probably even expect it.

I'd be pissed as fuck if my fiance wore the same shirt he wore ever day to my wedding.

    Pissed.

I'm with JoRocka. I would be pretty pissed. DF wants a tux though, so I'm good there.

Now, he will probably take his "vacation shirt" with him, which is a Hawaiian-style shirt he only wears when on vacation.

Idk. I feel like he needs to dress up a little. We are going for a more casual look but he still will be in a nice shirt with suspenders and nice pants.

I would probably ask him if he could at least wear an Oxford shirt. Doesn't have to be dressy, but to me a Hawaiian shirt, especially similar to something he wears every day, seems like the wedding is just any other day, not a special occasion.

This is his second wedding and 16 years ago he wore a tux in August in California and now he is pretty determined to not do THAT again. I respect his style even though I secretly hate Hawaiian shirts on anyone but Magnum PI. I'm unsettled by it but it will make him happy and comfortable so I'm going with it.

I mean it's one day for a few hours. He can't suck it up and wear something different than what he wears 2-3x a week? Sheesh.

All the time and money you're about to put into this wedding and he wants to wear what he wears on an almost daily basis? I'd be irritated. At least put on slacks and a dress shirt. Tell him he doesn't even have to put on a tie!

I think you should guys should find some form of compromise. So he doesn't want to wear a tux. Okay. How about at least some slacks and a dress shirt like Keri suggested?

Y'all are making very good points. Especially about the fact that he wears a HS to work every Friday. I'll move for a nice long sleeve shirt and khakis. Thanks for all your opinions. I appreciate all perspectives. That's why I love this forum. I trust your input.

I agree with others that a nice button up would be great.

If he is stuck on wearing something airy, maybe a nice white linen shirt and khackis?

FH doesn't get to choose what he wears.

He has his choice of grey or light grey tux.

I sound like a bitch but I really don't want him in his work clothes (full cowboy attire and smelling like cows) on our wedding day. ETA: I would ask him to wear a nice button up. Those look very nice in photos!
