Hawaii or St. Lucia, January Honeymoon HELP!

John, on November 11, 2014 at 11:22 AM Posted in Honeymoon 0 6

It's last minute and my Fiance and I trying to determine WHERE we want to spend the week after we get married in Jan. We love lush tropical areas with Sandy beaches, great food, fun activities, shows, relaxing time, Scenery and Safety. We are paying for the wedding and honeymoon out of our own pocketbooks and I think our absolute MAX budget is about 4.5k.

We have been working with a agent but I wanted to get some opinions from the people who have actually been!

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!

I did Hawaii but depending on where you live it could cost more than 4.5k. Our flights from Boston were 1k a person and our hotel was another 3.5k for 10 days. Plus rental car, food, activities, etc. It probably cost us closer to 7k for the time we spent there. It was absolutely worth every penny and some day I would love to go back. It is absolutely beautiful. The beaches are great. Wonderful snorkeling. The whales will be there in the winter when you go which I think is amazing. One thing to consider though, the water in Hawaii is not really warm like what you find in Florida and places like that. Even when we went in September the water was nice, but not like bath water that you find in other tropical places. I think it will be kind of cold in January.

I just got back from St. Lucia on Sunday and it was the most amazing experience. So far it's our favorite location and we plan to return in the future. We did three excursions together and we enjoyed each and everyone of them.

We just went to St. Lucia for a stop on our cruise ( not a honeymoon, just vacation) and LOVED it. We considered going back for our honeymoon. The activities were great! We did a segway tour of the island and it was GREAT. We stopped at a beach first, next to one of the sandals resorts, then went on a hike that overlooked the beautiful scenery, including the Pitons, followed by the segway tour. Def. endless adventure in St. Lucia. A group we met on the cruise did another excursion through a company called joes knows ( im not sure if thats it but you can google) and said it was the absolutely best thing they have ever done in their travels. I have never been to Hawaii, but could highly recommend St. Lucia from my day long experience.

If you scuba dive, I've heard Hawaii is the BEST place to go. However, FH and I are going to St. Lucia on our honeymoon. The pictures make it look BEAUTIFUL, and there is a lot of history on the island. Also, it houses one of the world's only drive through volcanoes!

I live in Hawaii and I definitely think you can do Hawaii for that budget depending on where you're coming from. For all the things you'd like to do, it sounds like Oahu would be a good island, it has the best food options and you can definitely go to shows (more like luaus). I'd also definitely look up the Polynesian Cultural Center which has a show that I think is like mixing a Las Vegas show with a luau performance, it's quite spectacular. Oahu is the busier island which means there are a lot of hotel options so you can find something that isn't extremely expensive, it just might not be the most luxurious. However if you do want to splurge and not be right in the heart of Waikiki with all the tourists, I recommend Turtle Bay or some of the hotels in Ko Olina. You won't be as close to the good food though. If you are on Oahu, you can take tours or even take the bus places so you don't HAVE to rent a car, but I still would for a day to drive around the island and stop off at pretty places. If you like to snorkel, there's an excellent nature reserve specifically for snorkeling (Hanauma Bay) and it's very easy to get to. There are a lot of other great activities like parasailing, hiking, sky diving, surfing, whale watching (in the winter), and places like Pearl Harbor, Dole Plantation, Diamond Head park, and much more. If you want a beach, every hotel is near the beach, if you want something a bit more peaceful then Waikiki isn't great for that, but If you want a little bit of everything on a budget that's what I would suggest.

If you want less people, Kauai is the way to go. Look into the Kauai Beach Resort, they have amazing prices and they have an excellent pool, we had a garden view room but still had a great view of the ocean, they have some restaurants right at the hotel that are quite good, and it's close to a lot of things. It is an absolutely beautiful island, it's my favorite! If you have any further questions about Hawaii let me know!
