Hawaii on a Budget?

Brooke, on August 2, 2019 at 10:22 AM Posted in Honeymoon 1 6

Due to unforeseen circumstances, my FH and I will no longer be going to Costa Rica for our honeymoon this Dec-Jan. We have decided to now go to Hawaii for 2 weeks, however finding it difficult to do that on a budget...

Anyone have tips on flights/places to stay/things to do in Hawaii while on a budget?

If you're outdoorsy then there's plenty to do in Hawaii on a budget. They have beautiful hiking trails and beaches! Hawaii is expensive for lodging because of those resort fees they add up so I'd rather look into Airbnb if I was you.

Could you shorten the trip to 1 week? We just went to Hawaii for 7 nights and it cost us around 8k. We did stay in nicer hotels though and rented a car and did a lot of excursions. Could you look into airbnbs or b&bs that aren't on the water for cheaper? I'd for sure look for somewhere you can eat in for some meals or includes food, all food in Hawaii is so expensive. I'd skip renting a car, and bring your own scuba gear (cheap on Amazon) so you can explore without paying for it.

I agree with this. OP, what is your budget? My DH and I went to Maui for a week for our honeymoon and spent about $6,000. I would not consider Hawaii a place to go if you're on a budget.

You can always try a vacation home. Some go by in a good price and theres also reviews. Also they'll have a kitchen so you can cook your own food. Much cheaper than going out. A lot of people say hawaii taxes are high but California has em higher, so I dont think its that high. But that's what my fh and I are looking at.

We went to Hawaii a couple years ago because friends of mine moved out there and were getting married. They live in Maui, which can be cheaper than on the big island. We stayed in a condo right on the ocean that I found on vrbo.com. It was cheaper than the hotel other friends stayed at, and had a lot more space and everything you would expect to find in a beach condo. I also shopped around and got a cheap rental car, because you’re going to want to be able to drive around the island to see everything. They do have cheap island hopper flights between the islands, so we took a day trip over to see Pearl Harbor which was really nice. If I remember correctly, the winter is busy season for Hawaii because of the whales, so maybe you could postpone your trip to the off season, which would also help save some money. Oh, and don’t discount the food trucks! I had lunch from a food truck one day, it was cheap and possibly the best meal I had the whole trip!

I am glad I am not wrong in this. FH & I were discussing honeymoons last night with his older friends. And they said why not Hawaii? They said it was cheap. I said no it's not compared to other destinations... They were probably thinking oh it's cheap cuz like yeah maybe 15-20 years ago when they were planning a belated honeymoon it was Smiley surprise
