My daughter is planning a wedding and doing so in 6 months time. They are a military couple and that is why there is only a 6 month window to get it all together. Everything is in place except the dress! How hard is it to find a dress off the rack? Do most bridal stores sell off the rack? Anybody use an online wedding site that was reputable and got the dress in a short amount of time? We live in different states and in a week I am going to visit so we can go wedding dress shopping. She has found a few she really loves, however the bridal shops say it takes 5-6 months to order a dress. I am so worried that what should be one of the best parts of planning the wedding will be stressful. Any advice?

Amazon is great if you take the time to read through reviews and pick out the bad eggs. I've seen some really gorgeous dresses on there and some companies even will have it pre-altered to fit her. You send them the measurements and they send a dress that should essentially fit perfectly. Smiley smile

My engagement is also 6 months. I found a dress at a sample store I could have taken it home with me that day but they offered a free cleaning which took a week.

Now I have to get a couple slight alterations and I am good to go!

Both my sister and sister in law had 4 month engagements due to military obligations as well. They were both able to order dresses from a traditional bridal shop, you just need to ask about what dresses will arrive in time as some can place a rush order if needed. I ordered my dress at the beginning of February and it will be here May 1st at regular production/shipping.

I bought mine off rack ! half off too! It fits me almost perfectly, I will have to get a hem but that is it! Just check different bridal shops for sales in your area. I got mine from a local bridal shop, Davids bridal was very disappointing. but they sell off rack as well. GOOD LUCK!

Most dress stores will sell off the rack- and discount the price too. In my experience they can only sell certain ones- the ones that they've had for a couple months. I bought an off the rack dress and it was amazing!

Check out Brides Across America, if they're a military couple than she absolutely qualifies. They have their next appointments July 4th and you get your dress that day. That's how I got mine, I really recommend them.

David's bridal also for me, I didn't get to try on or order the dress I originally wanted but I got almost the same dress in the strapless version which I had to order because they didn't have a size 8 on the rack. I was engaged Dec. 3rd and went dress sopping in January and my dress came in at the end of February, is now being altered, and I have my fitting this Friday, and my wedding is in 17 days, so it can be done without buying off the rack.

I took mine home the day of from David's Bridal. That particular style had just come in that week though so maybe it was because they had my size in stock at that point. Worth a shot!

I ordered a DB Studio dress from David's Bridal in store. It arrived at the store in a week and at my home another week later.

I also had a short timeline but Davids Bridal had my dress in within 3 weeks and it wasn't a rush order. Have them check when it will be in before she orders.

Thank you all so much for the suggestions! She has been into David's Bridal a couple of times and just has not found anything close to what she is looking for. There are a couple of bridal shops around her that have off the rack and sample dresses for sale. I will be heading there next week and hopefully we can at least look and she can try some on. I will definitely suggest Brides Across America to her!

The salon I went to had a rack of discontinued dresses you could take home that day. They had one I really liked, but was way too large for me and would have ruined the dress to take it in that much. I would check out local stores to see if they have any discontinued dresses or sample ones you can take. Also check out davids bridal. They can usually have dresses in sooner than 6 months

If she finds a dress she really loves, you can find the designer and style number and see if you can find it on Pre Owned Wedding Dresses.com. you only wait for shipping vs waiting for them to make it
