Have to get married at a registry office before our wedding day

Nicole, on July 14, 2019 at 10:04 AM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 6
We are getting married in an un-licensed venue which means we have to get married legally at a registry office the day before our wedding and have a celebrant on the day of.

Im really worried because obviously my closest family (parents and siblings) and my partners parents and nan want to be there for the official wedding, which I get, but I really don’t want that part to be the main thing and take anything away from our wedding day itself. I know it is the REAL thing but I don’t want such a fuss to be made that when we have our ceremony at our beautiful venue & our celebrations, they don’t feel as special.

has anyone had to do this before? Can you explain what actually happens in the registry office? We don’t want to exchange rings or say anything too romantic, we just want it to be the official ‘signing the papers’ part.

My husband and I did this. There’s nothing to see, just you both signing papers. You don’t say vows of any kind or exchange rings, unless you wanted to of course.

I’m just curious....what does that mean, an unlicensed venue? I’ve seen weddings happen in all sorts of places and spaces - essentially wherever the JP is willing to go, that’s where it happens. What makes a particular place “licensed” or not?

I’m also curious about this. People have weddings in parks, backyards, fire houses, all random places. What is a “licensed” venue?

I'm curious what an unlicensed venue means as well? In general whomever preforms the ceremony is the licensed one not the venue.
But overall all you're doing is signing a paper, there's nothing to see.

I'm assuming she's in the UK. In the UK, unlike in the US, only specific venues can be licensed for weddings to be held there. See this link:
