Have a Beach Wedding in November?

SRD, on January 12, 2017 at 10:11 PM Posted in Planning 0 23

I was thinking of having a intimate beach wedding in Galveston, Corpus Christi, or South Padre Island in Texas. But what I am wondering is if you can have a beach wedding in november? Not sure how beach weather is around that time. We do not have a official date set yet but would be nice to have in november. If we were to do this, the guest count would be 30 people. Is there anything i should know about having a beach wedding because i have never been to a beach before?

We are doing a beach wedding in Florida in march. (60 some short days!). I think November could be fine. Just check the average weather temps there at that time. In addition depending if this is a dw make sure everyone knows as soon as possible. That will help but also know that some will say yes but won't be able to actually come as it gets closer. Ask away if you have more questions.

Just a question, why do you want a beach wedding if you've never been to a beach before? I'm on the gulf coast of Florida, and while people get married on our beaches all the time, its nearly impossible to keep beach weddings private. Sand can also be incredibly annoying and sticky.

@Elizabeth C thank you for the info! Trying to google weather around those areas now. I live in Texas and the beach locations are here but like the closest one from me is 4 hours away and furthest one is 8 hours away.

@ LibbyLane we were thinking of having a beach wedding because we will more than likely honeymoon there and have always talked about going to the beach but never got around to it. Thanks for the sand tip cause i didnt know that. I figured that about the beach thing cause it is public so anyone can be there or walking around.

You should really consider taking a day/weekend trip before you decide for sure you want to get married there, or even honeymoon there. You've got enough time that you could even take that trip around the same time your wedding would be, so you can feel the weather out yourself.

It really all depends...I lived in corpus for 2 years and I remember swimming in the water in October and being comfortable, but there's also been snow in December.

I thinks it's possible, just make sure to have a back up plan!

I agree with a lot of the comments. If this the route you want to go hire someone to help! A wedding services or a planner but that really helps. In addition they know the areas on the beach that are less crowded and will be quieter short of the waves. Our wedding planner is moving us about 1/4 mile down from the typical beach spot to avoid it. In addition permits are pulled by them (yes you pay for it but) that allows them to ask people to move. The photos I have seen from our wedding service have all been beach weddings and no additional people in the pictures either!

Mind you I am super excited about our beach wedding!!! It definitely can be done and is done frequently and absolutely beautiful!!!!!

Everyone thank you for your comments! Yes i agree on a wedding planner. I really dont know any of those beach areas super well so if i even attempted to try to do it all myself i would pull my hair out.

Oh, sweetie...you've never been to a beach before? Make sure you visit one prior to your wedding. A beach is meant to be enjoyed in swimwear, with big beach towels, a cooler of soda or soft alcohol, and at some point, you have to run down the sandy highway and jump into that massive expanse of water that begins with you and ends on another continent. There's no pool that can compare.

As for your wedding, go ahead and google the temperature that both cities have experienced in the last five years (on the day you're planning to be married). You'll get a good idea of what to expect. It might be workable, it might not be workable...but start with the stats -- they're online.

PS -- get thee to a beach. It's an amazing experience.

As a fellow Texan and Houstonian, don't do a beach wedding in Galveston, the city is fun but that beach is not that great (and that's being generous)!

Honestly I'm not a big fan of beaches in general (love the views, hate the sand windiness etc) so I think you should definitely visit b4 if you've never been to one

I lived in Corpus Christi for about a year. November weather would probably be fine as far as temperature goes but winds in that area were regularly around 20mph. I don't think I saw winds less than 10mph the whole time I lived there. But I was only there for a year. I think that would be frustrating to have much wind for an outdoor wedding. I also don't think the beach is anything special there. It's kind of gross IMO, a lot of washed up debris and cars can drive on the beach and park there so it takes away the beauty of the beach.

@ Eileen M thanks for the tip. Only thing i was aware of at the time is thats the closest beach to us but when i tried researcing wedding planners and venues around there it was kind of expensive so i was going to try to research some more.

Not sure about corpus cristi. But if you need a videographer give me a call my husband is listed on here. **** would love for an excuse to go to south padre or corpus lol you will want your video or photos to have beautiful water in them.

I was at a beach wedding ceremony on christmas eve on the north east coast, freezing cold, ice and snow everywhere, painfully cold, slightly windy, also did I mention cold - SO BEAUTIFUL. those photos will be worth any discomfort we felt. Also most people know that beaches are windy and will wear their hair appropriately

I would also prepare for an overwhelming amount of humidity. It's already humid and disgusting in Texas (sorry, I know Texans love Texas, but I did my undergrad there, and I hightailed it back to Ca) and the humidity is only worse when you're near the water.

Might be ok in nov. but you know how finicky the weather can be in the "winter" 60 today, 90 tomorrow and monsoons on Friday.

Make sure you have a backup indoor location just in case.

And I agree with pp on the sand. Sand gets everywhere. Especially when you're sweaty, which you will be, because it's Texas.

The only redeeming quality is the breakfast tacos.

All the love to my friends and family in Texas, :-)
