Hi ladies. I'm getting married in June and still searching for the perfect dress. I went to David's Bridal today and tried on size 16 dress I'm 5'4", 155lbs, 38D. On the other hand, my sister who is 5'4", 125lbs, 34B, tried on size 6 dress and it fits. So if my sister fits in size 6, I will...

Hi ladies. I'm getting married in June and still searching for the perfect dress.

I went to David's Bridal today and tried on size 16 dress Smiley sad

I'm 5'4", 155lbs, 38D.

On the other hand, my sister who is 5'4", 125lbs, 34B, tried on size 6 dress and it fits.

So if my sister fits in size 6, I will probably will fit in size 10 if I loose about 30lbs.

I wanted to order size 10 dress, but the sales rep didn't let me. She recommended ordering size 12.

I'm certain that I can loose about 30lbs in 4 months. I'm not going to get any alterations done, so I got full 4 months to be on a diet.

What do you think? Should I go with my plan or listen to the sales rep?

* I would like to avoid alterations as possible to save $$$, since my budget is tight.

I almost ordered my dress a size smaller. I tried on dresses by the same designer with a very similar style to the dress I wanted in the size that I wanted to order, and my boobs did not fit in it. You order wedding dresses according to your boobs, everything else is reduced. If you were a 38C or 38B then it would be easier to convince the person taking your order to go down a size. The woman who took my order refused to let me order the size I wanted, she said she has full confidence in me that I will lose the weight I want to, but it won't come off my boobs, and therefore the smaller dress would never fit. So I reluctantly agreed and signed the contract. The next day I saw the pictures that had been taken of me in the smaller dress, and OMG there was a ton of boobage hanging out, and I knew that everyone was right. You order the dress for it's boob capacity and when it comes in, let the pro's do their jobs.

You also want to remember that the samples you try on in the store have been stretched out by other girls trying them on too! You will not have all 4 months to loose weight. You need to have your dress fittings soon and will not want to be going to a seamstress right up until the day you get married.

(I'm a 34DD, 5'2", currently 160 and used to be 115, so beeeelieve me, I know exactly where you're coming from. Just try on dresses in 10's and 12's so that you can actually see the difference. I called stores ahead of time to check the sizes of their samples.)

    As a wedding consultant...

    1. listen to her, she knows what she's talking about

    2. sizes vary among EVERY designer. you could be a 16 for DB but a 10 for Mary's... thus the reason why your consultant refused to order a 10.

    3. sorry to be harsh but there's no way in h3ll you'll be able to avoid alterations.

    4. Montara's point about the chest area is huge.

    5. as you know, your wedding is coming up fast & depending on how the dress fits, you'll need to be fitted OFTEN. typically, you're gonna want the dress to be finished with at least 1 month left.
