Has anyone had a large outdoor wedding reception during Covid?

How did it turn out?? Did anyone end up sick? Which region if the country are you in?? When was it?

We're planning on going through with our Midwest early Oct. wedding. Our short ceremony will be indoors and the reception will be completely outdoors. We're inviting 150, but highly doubt that many will come. We'll have the tables spaced out, 6 people to a table, masks available (but not required, except for the ceremony), hand sanitizer everywhere, and lawn games with a nearby lake people can wander too. So there is plenty of room for people to space out. And hopefully they will. We'll have a playlist going, but no actual dance area. I guess people can just dance wherever they feel like lol. Hopefully this keeps people from congregating to dance. Everyone is fairly local ( I think the furthest someone would drive is 1 1/2hrs). I haven't read any stories of someone having a bigger wedding, and how it went. Thanks!

We are in a super similar boat. We will have 120 guests but that includes children. (My fiancé's side of the family all have large families of their own so that makes the number look much larger) we are in super rural PA. The town has had 1less than 5 cases total since March and the whole county only 68. Almost all guests are from that town or surrounding equally low risk towns. We are taking precautions and the ceremony and reception are both in very large outdoor areas on family property. I feel pretty okay about it.

Also that article above was in California, which is not doing so hot, so that makes sense that people got sick. I think the location of our wedding really saved us from having to postpone. If it were almost anywhere else, we probably would have.

Also not me, but there are dozens of news stories about outbreaks stemming from weddings and other family gatherings. One example

Hey! Completely understand your reservations and stress about this. We recently just had our wedding this past weekend in southeast Pennsylvania. We invited 120 and only 60 attended. Everything was outside, we only had 4 people per table, hand sanitizer everywhere and lawn games as well so if people were not comfortable they could easily socially distance all night. The links everyone is sending you are on indoor celebrations. I keep thinking there must be a huge difference between indoor and outdoor risks considering there is a huge difference in number restrictions for the two. Don’t want to jinx myself because our wedding was only 4 days ago but so far no one has come to us to tell us they have symptoms or feel sick. We did not ask this but surprised at how cautious and responsible our guests were. A lot of our guests got tested before coming because they knew they’d be in a crowd. I will check back with you, if we find out someone did get sick but fingers crossed we are all safe 🤞🏼Considering the amount of cases in your county, I would not worry about it-you still deserve to have your special day and are doing everything you can to keep your guests safe. Dont be surprised if a lot decline, but everyone attending understands the risks and will be there because they want to be there. It’ll be a perfect day!

Thank you so much for telling me your experience! This has been the most encouraging post I've seen! I am starting to feel guilty about going through with everything, but we aren't postponing. So if we do anything we'll get married, and then just cancel the reception. I can't worry about planning a party for another year! I am so hopeful our guests play it safe that night and distance themselves from others as best as they can! I hope everyone from your event continues to stay healthy!! Congratulations on your marriage!!!
