Has anyone ever done Signature Shots?

Dr. & Mrs. R, on March 27, 2015 at 10:31 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 10

Our group likes to party... FIL's have a huge party every summer where people and family come from all over to be at. Sometimes a flight and hour drive away. It's one of the most talked about events among our family and friends. More than some weddings. We have all sorts of alcohol like homemade jolly rancher vodka, vodka soaked gummies, root beer schnapps with soft serve, dreamsicle jello shot orange slices, and it wouldn't be a R family party without Lemon Drops!

My question is, has anyone done this verse signature drinks? Our venue is FIL's house (same as the big party every year). They're providing all the alcohol for the bar so it's a little limited but we've still got a decent variety.

I know some people may think this is tacky but I'd rather have them be "signature" than have the song "Shots" blasting with a conga line of people taking shots. (Yes, this happened at a wedding we were at.)

I can't think of a venue around here that allows shots. I haven't heard of a signature shot for that reason.

I've never seen this, but I've also never seen a venue that allows shots. Our venue has a strict no shot policy.

Our venue is FIL's house. We don't have any legal venue issues.

ETA: FMIL already said a Lemon Drop shot will be pre-made and ready at any time. I was just thinking of adding something not as sweet for those who don't like sweet.

If we were having a signature drink, it would definitely be in shot form. I have only seen it done once before and it was Patron. They went through 4 bottles that night. It was ridiculous.

I've heard of signature drinks, not shots. Like the grooms favorite beer and brides favorite cocktail. If our venue/budget had allowed it we would have had something like that.

Almost none of my venues allow shots anymore. Honestly though, even if there are no restrictions, with liquor host liability being what it is? I'd skip it or limit it to the beginning...

I've only heard of signature drinks too. Whether shots are allowed at our venue I'm not sure, but we're not allowing them.

My venue also did not allow it. If you are set on it, I would limit it to one shot, maybe as part of the toast. I would consider myself a partier but I cannot handle multiple shots anymore.

I haven't heard of it, but if it fits your crowd, why not? Although I would make sure a head of time that they all have a DD or a safe way to get home just becaue they might get more trashed than with just drinks.

Just because the venue is you FIL's house doesn't mean there aren't legal issues. There is still liability there.

I would be LESS apt to provide shots at a home reception than a venue reception.
