Has anyone been to a wedding at the Prospect Park Boathouse in Brooklyn?

Hi,long time lurker, first time contributor here. I’m starting to plan my wedding, and could really appreciate the help of more experienced people out there!

I’m wondering if anyone has ever been to a wedding at the Prospect Park Boathouse in Brooklyn, and could share their experience as a guest (or as a host!)

The Boathouse is among my and my fiancé’s preferred venues (we and most of our guests live in Brooklyn). However, between its site fee and prices for their exclusive caterer, the Boathouse does come with a serious price tag, so we are trying to be extra careful that this is the right choice for us and won’t result in unexpected extra expenses and issues cropping up.

Our top concerns: bathrooms and climate control. There are only two main bathrooms in the venue, M and F, with one stall per each (I assume the M bathroom also has a urinal, but the W bathroom only had one stall). There is another single bathroom in the small room upstairs, though it’ll probably be mainly used by the bridal party, and definitely not an option for older/infirm guests who can’t take the stairs. I did see a porta potty just outside the venue, which I assume is mostly for the staff use, but it seemed like that doesn’t bode well... We are going to have 80-100 guests, and the thought of less than three bathrooms between all of them makes me concerned.

Secondly, the Boathouse does not have air conditioning. It is situated on a lake, which is cooler, and has many built in and added fans and opens into the outdoors. But it’s also not a huge space, and we are planning to have the wedding in early September in NYC. Will it get too hot with 80-100 people, including people dancing?

Finally, anyone who’s had dealt with this venue whether as a guest of a host, were there any other problems you experienced? Please share. (And yes, I know heir old caterer went MIA...but hopefully that’s not a recurring issue).

Thank you in advance! Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I haven't been to the boathouse but one of my best friends got married at the picnic house! Are you considering that one as well or just the boat house?

@cassie actually just looking into the Boathouse! We are torn between the Boathouse and the Staten Island botanical gardens. Though I think we are now definitely leaning SI because we just got the quote from the Boathouse and they’re offering about half the food for way more money 😳 and their bathroom/indoor climate control situation is not a problem...

    Hi Yekaterina,

    Congrats on your engagement!

The bathroom and climate issues do not sound ideal for your guests...in the summer.

If it is views of the city or outdoors you are looking for, I would search the WeddingWire Venues for your area- because you can filter by venue type, price, guest list size! I started a search for venues that are similar to the boathouse/garden.

Would you be interested in a rooftop or garden style venue?
