Has anyone asked you if they can bring someone to "tag along?"

I don't know why but I keep getting this question! One of FH friends asked (exact verbiage: "do you mind if [BF] tags along?" if she can bring her BF along (that she just started dating) when she's already bringing her mom as a plus one. That's going to be a hard pass. She said "I really want you to meet him" to FH. Great, y'all can have dinner or something, we're not going to meet with new people the day of our wedding when our time is already thin with family we love and barely see. Sigh. Is it just me?

Nope, my cousin who is my age, 27, just did the same thing. She's bringing her new, first boyfriend to our wedding even though she didn't have a plus one. I was mad at first because I wasn't sure we had room for any extras, still mad but some people didn't RSVP so we have the room. She told her mom who told her that she was bringing him regardless of how we felt or if there was room. 😐🤐😑😒

This is so frustrating but Im so glad Im not the only one! We invited the bests mans mom and dad, who my FH has only met a handful of times and ive never met, but FH felt obligated. They wrote in on the RSVP card, "well be bringing our daughter too". Um youre 27 year old daughter is not invited, Like wtf?! People are sooo rude! I called them and told them if they would like to pay the extra $150/person our venue demands, then she is welcome to come. They got upset but at the end of the day you are not having a party for +1s who dont even know your last name, its about your close family and friends being happy over your marriage!

Yes. So annoying. I know for sure the person that asked is single. When I told him I'd have to see how many of our INVITED guests declined and asked for the name of the person he'd want to bring he said..."I'll get back to you". Really? So you really think I'm going to let you bring a stranger that you aren't in a relationship with to my wedding like its a free date night or something? UGH!!!!

Oh yeah I had one guest ask if they can bring a few family members from out of state. Uh nope! I'm already cutting my guest list to fit my budget and that is meaning some of my family members. I'm def not gonna have a guest bring family member i don't even know. As I told ppl at my first wedding and this wedding. I have a budget for a certain amount of ppl. Now I did have ppl not show after saying they were coming and I already paid. So I told certain ppl if they want to have want to call a friend to come to fill the spot that's fine since it was paid for... Which does happen...expect it

Just tell her that you're trying to keep the wedding as small as possible to keep it more personal. So everyone is only allowed a plus-one..... that been my reasoning and it's been working well for everyone. No hard feelings. They even agree and think that's a good idea. One of my bridesmaids wanted to bring her sister to the wedding, then her sister's gf, then she wanted to invite her new bf (they broke up now) so I said yes? I didn't want to be rude. Then she wanted to invite her step- sister (didn't know she had this one since her mom recently remarried ) and I was upset since I'm keeping the wedding number lower to keep it intimate and don't want people I don't know there. So I ended up telling everyone that I wanted the wedding more personal so everyone can only bring a plus one.

I’ve seen this happen at all weddings I’ve been to and it also happened at mine. For my cousin’s wedding, her brother in law’s GF invited her parents and brother. Then, a day before the wedding FMIL called her and said the GF’s best friend wanted to come too. She said no, but the girl showed up anyways. She was technically a plus one who got to bring 4 additional people. I had people ask if they could bring more people in addition to their plus one and I allowed it because people made it seem like I was an awful person for not allowing their friends to attend. I regret it.
