Handwriting help!

Danielle R., on December 17, 2009 at 5:10 PM Posted in Planning 0 31

Okay, I really need your thoughts. I have about 180 envelopes to address for my save-the-dates. The problem is that I have bad handwriting. Yes, it is at least legible, but it's certainly not pretty. I have tried to get my computer & printer to print the address on the envelopes, but that's just a lost cause. And I also don't have the time or the money to spend on a professional calligrapher. What should I do? Should I go ahead, give it my best, and hand address them myself?

I would. I also have 'boy' handwriting. It is not good at all. But I didn't care too much for the STDs, I just did my best. And for the actual invites I had my Mom write them because she has perfect handwriting. I wouldn't worry about it, the envelopes will be torn into and thrown away.

    Address labels!!!

You can also save the list and use them for your thank-yous. Just buy the clear ones, choose a pretty font, and voila!

Do you know anyone close to you that has good handwriting or maybe that can type and print them out for you? Maybe give them a nice little gift for thanks. I actually just wrote out a few for a coworker today who is getting married next month. Good luck!

Really?!?! Do the clear address labels turn out good & not look too impersonal for wedding related items? You just might have saved me!! Not only do I have bad handwriting, but my mom lives no where near me & wouldn't even be able to help with the invitations! Would it be bad etiquette to use the clear labels for the actual wedding invitations too?

That might be the best option.... hand write the save-the-dates & then do address labels for the invitations. Thank you guys!!

I used them for everything. They make matte ones now that just disappear on the envelope. It's kinda like that magic tape they make for wrapping paper, that doesn't show. We just chose a pretty calligraphy font. Several people asked who wrote them for us Smiley xd

And we re-used the list for Christmas cards too!

I know it's supposed to be bad etiquette to use labels on your wedding stuff, but I have horrible handwriting and just couldn't bring myself to hand write them all. I used the clear address labels and printed them on my computer. The US Postal Service will thank you and so will your hands!

I am using labels. I mean my handwriting is not bad but with 200 guests, that's just too much damn handwriting lol!

I agree with analy. and with most labels it gives you a website that you can go onto and download a template. then put your stuff into the template and it prints perfectly!

I just got done printing 60 of my 180 labels!! Thank you all SO much for the suggestion! As soon as I saw the idea for labels, I went straight to Wal-Mart, bought a 300 pack for $10 and went to work! I also bought the return address labels to use as well. Avery.com had the template that you could download & it worked PERFECTLY! It did take me about an hour or so to do all 60 addresses though (simply because I had to reset the font, size, color, & centering with EVERY box!). But it was MUCH easier than if I had handwritten them myself! I still have several more to go, but those first 60 are labeled, stuffed, sealed, and ready to go!!

I got a little concerned after reading this thread yesterday b/c I have seen several other brides say they had trouble feeding envelopes through their printer. So last night I set up my rsvp envelopes in Publisher to see if they would print and it worked out well. So I went ahead and did all of my response envelopes. It was so simple I am now inspired to redo my Cry Pack envelopes! I'm looking for graphics now so I can print directly on the envelopes instead of doing peel and stick labels. And I think this weekend I will go ahead and print the return address on the back flap of my outter envelopes. So thanks for scaring me! It really kicked me into gear lol.

Great post! Im finishing up our save the date labels now and I was considering the clear labels. Im so happy to know that they are truly clear and look great on the envelopes!

@ladylee you can try dafont.com I had trouble figuring out how to find them once I downloaded them (so sad but true) but they have amazing fonts and graphics for free!

Yes I've downloaded quite a few fonts from dafont.com. www.urbanfonts.com is another good one.

Labels are okay! Even Martha Stuart says so on her webiste. I plan on using them since I don't have the greatest handwriting and think that the clear labels will look much nicer. =)

I think the bride using her printer to print directly on the envelopes is great if her printer will accommodate the paper stock.

I'm obviously "anti-labels" on invitations and would love for Danielle R to email me directly. We may be able to work something out. My email addy is *****@****************.***.

I'm wondering where Martha Stewart says that using labels is OK on her website. Besides the fact that she sells labels...

I just looked and found this on www.marthastewart.com:

Get organized about a month before your desired send-out date. This should be six to eight weeks before the wedding, allowing your guests adequate time to respond and ensuring that you will get a reliable head count a week or two before the event. The address on a wedding invitation should be handwritten; printed labels are not appropriate (though calligraphy done by computer directly on the envelope is gaining popularity and acceptability).

Thanks so much for posting that...seems like there's a BIG contradiction on her site!

Why don't you get fun label like circle or oval. you can find them at paper-source and they come in all different colors. they looks really elegant and different.
