Hand Foot Mouth

Erika, on October 18, 2017 at 11:12 AM Posted in Planning 0 36

I'm thinking of keeping my 4 year old daughter home from school for the remainder of the week.

Her Preschool sent a paper home yesterday from school warning that a child at the school is showing symptoms of hand foot mouth. Then I noticed today that it's her BFF has it. She has sores all around her mouth.

My FH somehow caught hand foot mouth a few years ago and was miserable for 10 days with blisters everywhere.

Our wedding is 15 days away and I don't want to risk my daughter catching it.

Am I being crazy for wanting to keep her home?? Fyi-its a private preschool that we pay for and they don't take attendance.

I'd call a doctor, not an online forum.

You are not crazy. I would keep her home. My friend's child got it and it was horrible. Especially with your upcoming wedding, I wouldn't risk it.

Yes, it's highly contagious so I'd keep her at home too.

I'm a preschool teacher and it drives me insane when parents send their kids to school sick. I'm sure you have parents like that in your daughter's class so I wouldn't risk sending her & having her catch it so close to your wedding.

I would call your pediatrician first; but if it were my child - she'd be staying home.

I'd keep her home and go in for a check up just for prevention purposes

As a former preschool teacher, that shit is contagious af, so I'd keep her home. I'd also be calling the pediatrician because there's a chance she's already been exposed- I can't remember the incubation time off the top of my head but I do recall that it's basically before the sores appear.

Definitely keep her home. My son had that when he was 2 it ran rapid through his day care and he was miserable. Luckily we didn't catch it!

I'd keep her home. At her age it's honestly not a big deal.

You are not crazy. I quit my last job, as a nanny, because they always made me come in when the kids were sick with no warning. I was sick all the time.

If her BFF has it, she may already have been exposed. Keep in mind that if it is spreading around the school there will likely be contagious children there for the next few weeks, as it is passed around from person to person. Once a person has symptoms, they are generally considered contagious for 7-10 days but the virus can actually linger in their feces for several weeks. It spreads because kids aren't the best hand washers after using the toilet.

    Good luck!

I'd want to keep her home too, not just for her sake but for you and FH too. I think she is young enough that it will be okay. It's really going around one of my clients came in three weeks ago and she's a teacher and was telling me it's running rampant. Be careful!

I am surprised the daycare is letting the child stay with something like that. I worked in preschool for 8 years and if something like that popped up we called the parent and the child had to have a doctors note to come back.

That child shouldn't at school If they have something contiguous like that. But if it was me I'd keep her hold.

I would keep her home. I read that the contagious period is during the fever. But to be careful I would keep her home wedding or not. That stuff sucks and spreads quick.
