Hair/make-up done at salon vs place you are getting dressed

Jennifer, on August 17, 2016 at 11:28 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 17

Hey ladies,

I need opinions on pros and cons of getting hair/make-up done at a salon vs where you are getting dressed before the wedding. What did you like about where you got your hair/make-up done and would you have done it differently? I am not sure yet if all of my bridesmaids will be getting their hair/make-up done or will be doing it themselves. I am still looking for a salon, but would like to decide on where I will be getting ready at so I can pick a place that best suits mine and my girl's needs.

It's much more relaxing for you if you have someone come to your location. That why your not rushing all day. Be pampered...it's your day after all.

I'd go with getting it done at your location. I've been part of both saloon and at location- location is way better! Everything is there, everyone is there, and you don't have to worry you'll be late to anything.

My salon didn't have room for makeup artist. So it would have been at two locations. So we chose to do both at my parents in town and then going to venue to get dressed. Photographer will not be present for hair and makeup, only getting dressed. Not sure I want pictures pre hair and makeup anyways lol

We got ours done in the hotel suite then we changed into our dresses afterward. It was more relaxing and we didn't have to deal with travel time to and from the salon.

I'm getting ready at my venue we are doing ceremony and everything there. So I think at the location is much easier than going to the salon.

I am having hair and makeup come to me. It is just one less thing to worry about traveling between places and then they are also there to do touchups right before getting dressed.

I find that it makes everything more relaxed and mellow. I have been in weddings that have done both and I much prefer relaxing with the bride/bridesmaids over sitting in a salon.

I don't see any con with someone coming to you. That's what we're doing!

We will be having hair and makeup done in my hotel suite so we have no pressure and just pure fun and pampering the morning of. All of my girls will be in their dresses and ready to go before we leave for the venue, and I will be putting my dress on in the actual plantation. It'll be so much fun! Best of luck to you!

We are doing it before the salon opens, so we would had to pay an early appointment fee to do it at the salon. I'm doing mine at our rental house so I can hang out with my mom and bridesmaids while I get my hair and makeup done.

Your location definitely. I'd be too worried something would happen to mess it up because their location and the wedding location.

I am having my hair and makeup team come to the bridal suite and we all get ready there. They have the lights and the makeup chairs all set up and ready to go. The con is the $100 travel fee, but I would be paying that regardless since she is traveling from 3 hours away. I think it makes things less hectic for them to come to you! The bridal suite is one of my favorite parts of our venue so I want to make good use of it haha.

Thank you all for the advice! I was leaning toward at my location, but wanted to hear other's thoughts on the matter too.

Laine - Your bridal suite looks wonderful! Enjoy your pampering time!

Getting ready in our hotel room took a lot of pressure off and allowed us to be relaxed before having to go to the venue. I can't imagine having to drive to the salon, back to hotel, to the venue, etc. I loved that they came to our hotel room.

Its definitely more relaxing to have them come to you, and you won't have to worry so much about a time crunch. You also wouldn't be able to have your photographer at a salon. However, it is more expensive to have someone come to you, but IMO it's worth it.

I am getting my makeup done at the hotel because I don't know the area well and travel would be stressful. However, you may need a minimum number of people in order to get them to come to you. Mine required 5 people doing hair and makeup.

Jumping back on this thread to see what you decided! I def. can't afford to have the hair & makeup artists come to my location (my mom is paying for it - I was just going to do my own, but she wanted to contribute in some way - this is her only wedding contribution - and she's also not very well off, so I didn't want to add to the already pretty high cost). I have no idea where I can get ready after H&MU - none of my family are staying at the hotel by our ceremony (church, so can't get ready there either), so I cant scoot over there after to throw on my dress, and I don't want to be lugging my dress everywhere, and the salon isn't that close to my apartment.. Really struggling here - thinking of canceling the salon and just getting GlamSquad or something, but my mom really liked the salon idea, and they said they would do her h&mu for free (very short hair)... Would it be crazy to just put my dress etc. on at the salon and go straight from the salon to the wedding? Seems like that would be really odd, but I don't really mind, but I feel like people, if they knew, would be like "aww, that's too bad - she got ready in a salon bathroom..." so it makes me a bit insecure...
