Hey guys When I had my hair trial my HMUA basically implied that I shouldn't wash my hair everyday and should only condition my ends. Hey guysSmiley smile When I had my hair trial my HMUA basically implied that I shouldn't wash my hair everyday and should only condition my ends. I wash my hair every day because it gets oily/greasy very quickly and I use conditioner all over because my hair gets dry and tangled when I wash it 😫 what do you guys do?
For those who dont wash your hair everyday, do you still get it wet and rinse it or just keep it dry? Do you use conditioner all over or just on the ends?
Thanks guys!Smiley smile

Don’t wash your hair everyday. It dries it out. I wash my hair every other day and dry shampoo or just leave it the days in between.

As a professional hair stylist I will add to what she has told you. Please be sure not to wash everyday (start moving your shampooing to every other day then every two or even three days). When it is shampoo day scrub well twice with shampoo on scalp (do not apply shampoo directly to ends) then Add conditioner to ends and work it into the mid shaft NEVER apply conditioner to your scalp. The reason shampooing needs to be spaced out is because it causes an imbalance in hair oils and natural ph balance by depleting/stripping too much of scalps necessary oils. The shampoo strips the scalp which kicks the sebaceous glands into hyperactive oil producers in order to effectively replenish what you just depleted. Instead of shampooing I’m between, grab a boar bristle brush and brush your hair twice a day, roots to ends, and apply a healthy oil to the ends only, in between washes. If you need to go somewhere during one of the in between days then just use dry shampoo at the root (sparingly) but not every time it’s a non shampoo day. Also, note that the sebaceous glands will finally ease up on oil production once you stop shampooing! It’s a vicious cycle, and it takes about a month for everything to readjust so the quicker you switch your days to every two days the quicker it stops getting so oily.

I just pay close attention to my oils and shampoo as-needed, sometimes I just need a tiny bit of shampoo at the top of my head and whatever runs down is good. I rinse everyday, and use conditioner on most of my hair every day, but sometimes I start conditioner at the tops of my ears and down and leave the top.

I was able to train my hair so that I only need to wash it once a week. In the 2-3 days leading up to when I wash it I'll use dry shampoo to help prolong it.

I wash every other day, which I've been able to do (rather than every day) since going sulphate and silicone free, and switching to shampoo and conditioner bars. I do use an apple cider vinegar rinse on non-wash days and my hair has never been healthier. Sulphates (which are strong stripping cleansers) are horrible for some hair types (including mine) and the reason for ditching silicones is that you need sulphates to wash them out. The ACV rinse (1 tablespoon to a cup of water) closes the cuticle of the hair which keeps moisture in. Not all shampoo bars are sulphate free though - Lush ones aren't so if you do investigate this option, beware of that.

I wash my hair once to twice a week (usually twice). Did you know that over-washing your hair actually causes the scalp to overproduce sebum creating an oily effect?

Since I don't wash that often, I use my conditioner all over. I also have layers and bangs. My scalp wants some TLC, too.

I use a clarifying shampoo once to twice per month depending on how much product I've used (i.e. dry shampoo, heat protectant spray, finishing oils, hairspray).

I use sulfate free shampoos because they irritate my scalp skin. These shampoos can also have buildup, so the clarifying shampoo helps with that. I always follow up with a keratin mask after using it.

If you have insta, I HIGHLY recommend finding jasminereahairco on there. She has a million tips on how to train your hair to go between washes!! Years ago I was an every day washer, and in a desperate effort to repair my hair after a terrible decision to bleach it blonde (natural brunette), I started going every other day. Then every three. Then every four. (And so on). Right now I only wash my hair about once a week, and it really only gets greasy on day 5-7 depending on the week. I know that sounds gross, but I promise I’d you go watch jasmine’s videos you will get why it is SOOOOO healthy for your scalp and you hair to stretch between washes!! I don’t get it wet when I don’t wash it, and I brush my hair and my scalp really well every day! Her tips are seriously amazing for people who are looking to do anything with their hair!!

My hair used to get super greasy if I just skipped a random day! But your oils actually adjust to whatever your schedule is, so if you wash every day it’s producing more. If you transition to every other day your body adjusts and it’s less greasy. I wash my hair every other day, no rinse or anything in between, condition only the bottom half, and do a mask about every two weeks! I also take biotin to promote growth/strength

I have curly hair and have been following the curly girl method for the last 3years. I don't use any products with sulfates, silicones, waxes, drying alcohols. I wash once a week and never use shampoo. A shampoo brush though has been a game changer for me! I cowash the top to loosen of the dirt and grime and then after rinsing I condition my hair all over. If I don't, the top gets really dry from the lack of moisture from the water.

I've always been told to wash your hair every other day bc your hair has natural oils and washing it daily dries it out. I've also heard not to put conditioner on your roots, not sure why though

Try a cleansing conditioner or just wash you hair with conditioner like you would shampoo and then condition as normal. That’s what I do and then when I get my hair done the hair dresser washes with shampoo

I used to wash my hair everyday but was told the same thing. It was drying my hair out. I do every other day usually. In between I recently tried dry shampoo and I absolutely love it!!! And then once a week or every other week I use a really good conditioner on all my hair and while it’s still in a wrap it up in a hot wet towel and leave it for about 30 minutes and rinse it out after (:

Same as most, I wash my hair every other day. I try to stay away from dry shampoo but if I need to I use it. I have really fine hair and it gets greasy on the top too.

I used to wash and condition every day, but at the urging of my hairdresser I got myself on an every other day routine. It took awhile as I felt my hair looked greasy pretty quickly. I use Living Proof dry shampoo on the days I don't wash and I find that it takes care of any oiliness and adds a pleasant smell. I feel better about washing every other day to help preserve my haircolor and have less contact with the hair dryer.

I agree that it’s better to wash every few days rather than every day. That said.... my hair gets really greasy really quickly and no amount of any kind of dry shampoo that I’ve tried has been able to properly freshen it or make it look less like an oil slick. The problem is that in my career, I can’t get away with looking torn up for several weeks or months to train my hair. So I wash it daily and condition the ends daily and condition the scalp every few days.

To protect my hair, I don’t hear treat (no dryer or straightener or curler) except for special occasions.

I’m planning to continue this daily washing the day of my wedding even because the trial with greasy hair looked awful.

I've never heard of shampoo and conditioner bars! I will definitely look into this, as well as the ACV rinse!

I wash my hair once a week and never use dry shampoo. I started following the Curly Girl Method almost a year ago and it's made a huge difference in my hair. The basics are not using any sulfates, silicones, drying alcohols, or heat. My hair is healthier than it's ever been now. I easily get 4 days of wearing it down and then usually throw it up the last few days of the week.
