Hair Trial... price?

Sarah, on January 1, 2011 at 9:01 AM Posted in Planning 0 5

I've been looking around at places to do my hair/make-up for the wedding. The cheapest I've found comes out to be just about $250, which works for me. I haven't gone to talk to them yet, just going off their website, but I am seeing a trend. Is it usual that you PAY for the hair trial? I'm probably missing something, I just assumed if you're booking with someone they'd include the trial...? Also, does that seem like a reasonable price? That includes the hair style, make-up, and travel fee. If I'd want a make-up trial, it's an extra $35.

I've been searching around online, and most other places I can find that do travel hair/make-up are way beyond these prices, so I'm okay with the prices, just wasn't sure about having to pay extra for trial.

Ya I think thats the norm to pay for the trial; sometimes it might be less if they don't make it as tight as the original; you figure it's still time they are putting in and maybe doing the same thing they woudl do the day of the wedding, same product, same price I suppose. :-)

I guess it all depends on who you're going to. My trial was $75 for the hair and another $75 for the makeup trial. I had issues paying for the trial at first, but since I was there for 2 hours getting my hair and makeup done, I understand why they have to charge!

I hear that $75 is the going price. My regular stylist will be doing mine. I get my hair done weekly so we will just play around for a few weeks until I get the perfect style.

The salon I used to work at would not charge for a hair trial, the day of styling (had to be done at the salon, no traveling) was $110 I believe.

Makeup was $45, same price regardless of if it was for a trial or not. I believe the price went up to about $60 shortly after I left. Again, services done only at the salon, no traveling.

This was on the lower end for the area I live in (Houston). I too, would have a hard time swallowing having to pay for a trial, especially if you *for sure* go with that stylist. At the same time, I get that you also may not hire that stylist for the day of, and they'd be out those few hours they spent with you instead of a paying client.

It's normal to pay for a trial, but you are often given a credit if you do book.

Think of it this way- whether you book or not- they are spending their time and resources to work with you. They are losing time they could be working with other clients. They deserve to be paid for it.
