Hair & Makeup Help in NYC!!!

Thanks for the tips ladies. I have looked through the catalog but it's hard to tell which vendors are familiar with working with African American hair. I've had bad experiences as a bridesmaid where stylists said they could but were out of their league when it came down to it. So I was hoping for some personal recommendations from the community

You can always ask when you speak to them how comfortable they are and how often they have styled ethnic hair. All my girls & I are either Puertorican with Super curly hair or west indian so part of all my preliminary conversations with both hair & make up people was how experienced they were with doing ethnic hair & make up on different skin tones. I asked to see pictures and I ended up going with people who I felt confident in what I saw & read about them.

When I reached out to Glam Squad they seemed to be pretty reasonably priced & said that they could do all different hair textures & makeup. I would reach out to them, they travel all throughout NYC.

I'm not doing the same vendor as my girls just because they want a bit more than I feel comfortable paying for myself but both seem great and I'm really excited to work with the teams.

I'm also mixed with curly hair and haven't booked anyone yet! Not sure what hairstyle to go with either!!!!

The struggle is real! It hard for us mixed curly girls to find people that know how to style us. In terms of style, my wedding is in July so I'm afraid if I wear it down it will poof up immediately so I'm thinking an updo to the side.

Loved my hair & MUA, Erica Does Makeup, but not sure how skilled they are with ethnic hair. My best suggestion is to look at their website and facebook pictures. You can see real brides and what they look like. Also, check out liweddings.com. Many of the more western LI vendors travel to the city. There are a ton of reviews on MUA and hair people on that site.
