Hair Color - dyed or natural?

Samantha, on July 11, 2019 at 12:50 AM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 31
Hi All!
Hoping for some advice on a topic that I am very on the fence about. I naturally have a medium brown Nair color but for the past 1.5 years I've been dying my hair a deep reddish color that o really love. I don't know whether to go natural for the wedding or keep up the red. Have any of you who dye you hair gone back to natural for your wedding day (or are considering it)?

Thanks in advance!

I also do my red.. I did my red again for New Years but I decided to go with a natural look for my wedding so I’m letting it get there now... I think it’s preference so either look would be fine.. my dress will
be red too so I don’t want my hair to be red as well lol. I obviously don’t do my hair a blood red but still...

This is a difficult decision, Samantha!

Do you see yourself having the deep red color for a long time to come?

Which hair color do you feel more like yourself with?

I have natural dirty blonde hair and have done everything from full out brunette to like a deep maroon red. Currently have red and blonde highlights. The red has faded a bit to a more red/purple/pink (it's hard to describe 😂😂). Totally keeping it for the wedding because the hair style I want looks great with it.

If you love the red, I say keep it!!

If you can see yourself with this color for a long time, I think you should be ok. I’ve been dying my hair dark brown (I already have quite a bit of gray) just for the wedding, but right after I want red hair! Unfortunately, it’s hard to make dyed hair lighter.

If you really love the red, you should stick with it! I used to dye my hair a deep red too but it was too much to maintain for me after a while so I went back to my natural color but got a balayage recently. I will probably let it grow out for next year for my wedding.

I had to give up my dyed hair for my job (I'd like blue hair) but I've been considering black because I like the way it looks.
If you like the red go for it.

I’m a dirty dull blonde. I’ve been dyeing it a lighter blonde which I am keeping for the wedding.
It really depends on what feels the most “you”-red or brown.

Keep whatever you currently like best! Just don't be like my cousin and dye your hair a totally new color a week before the wedding!

I have naturally dirty blonde hair, but I started dyeing it a lighter blonde when I was 16. Shortly after I graduated I tried to dye it red but it came out pink. Then I had it varying shades of red, orange, Auburn, and firefruck red for about 2 and a half years. Then I had it pink, peach, purple, silver, turquoise, blue and eventually my hair was so damaged that I had to chop it off really short and had it two-tone blue and purple.
Then I got a new job and had my best friend/hairdresser/now MOH slap some black hair dye on that and started my job.
That was almost 2 year ago and I kept it pretty dark black/purple black/blue black for about a year. Then I got lazy and started growing my hair out. Now my hair is dark/medium brown with some strange orange tinges and my roots are coming back in all natural.
I’m planning on having my hair balayaged for the wedding with my roots natural and some blonde/caramel highlights and such. Really my best friend is the one with the vision for my hair and I love to let her play because she’s so good at what she does.
Honestly I’m excited to be back to somewhat natural for my wedding!!

Totally a personal decision but I have been coloring mine red forever and I can't imagine not having red hair for my wedding. I'm naturally a dark dirty blond but almost everyone knows me as a red head. If you love the red and think you will keep it for a while, I say go for it.

I'd say go for it! I have to give up my purple hair for a new job, so I will not be rocking color for my wedding, but I will miss it so much! If you have been so long with your red, most likely you'll look back on your pictures and love it still, even if you decide to go natural after your wedding.

I'm a natural brunette but I've always loved the baylayge blonde look. I did it a few years ago when I started college but then stopped and let my natural color come back. However, back in March I tried it again and am completely in love! So I will be redoing the look in a few weeks so it will be good to go for my wedding at the end of September!

As PP have said if you love the red and think even 50 years from now looking back on your wedding photos you will still love it then go for it!

I had bleach blonde hair for the past 9 years, then we got engaged and I spent the next 12 months not touching it so it would look more natural. My hair obviously wouldn't go back to my normal color in that time but I prefer my natural color for my wedding day.

Why change for your wedding? If the red looks better on your normally, why wouldn't it look better for the wedding?

Also, you want people at your wedding to see you as the best version of yourself. If you look so different that they barely recognize you, that won't help.

I almost always dye my hair dark in the fall and winter and go blonde in the summer, but for some reason I want my hair dark for the wedding (which is next weekend). Do you think you'll keep up with the red for a while, or do you think it's just a phase for now? The only reason I say that is because my cousin has always had super blonde hair, and right before she got her senior pictures done in high school she dyed it jet black. It's so weird to see those pictures now because she's never had black hair since then, and that's been over 10 years ago. I know senior pictures and wedding pictures are completely different, but I just always use that as an example. I would say go with your gut.

No way!! I've been coloring my hair for so long, nobody would recognize me if I went natural!! lol, just kidding. Of course they would recognize me, but I would look much older (gray hair), and there is no way I'm doing that for my wedding!!

Do it! Why not. If it's been something you've been wanting to do, i think the red will look beautiful! Plus it fades fast so if you don't like it you can't stick with a more muted red. I had my hair platinum almost white for years and the upkeep just became too much (not to mention damaging) so i went a darker blonde and liking it. Your wedding hair can be whatever vibe you're feeling Smiley smile

I naturally have dark brown hair, but due to genetics I started graying very young so I haven't had my natural hair color in 6 years. I played around with colors for the first few years that I started dying it and finally found one flattered me best and stuck with it. So I kept that color for the wedding instead of going back to what my natural color was. I think it was a good decision and I got a lot of compliments from people that knew what my hair used to look like

I have a dirty blonde, light brown natural color and for the longest time I would bleach it and tone it lavender. Very subtle but very pretty! I opted to go natural for the wedding so 1.) I could let me hair get as healthy as possible. 2.) so I didn't have to worry about roots in any of my pictures.

I went with my natural hair for a long time but in May did a bayalage and I absolutely love it and I'll keep it up for the wedding! This is a total personal choice, and I agree with everyone else - you have to ask yourself how you would want to look back on your photos!
