Hair and Makeup Help!

Sara, on March 21, 2020 at 4:00 PM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 13

I wear my hair in a ponytail everyday, I do not own a single makeup item, never have. So for my wedding I don't want to go all out. I have chosen a hairstyle for myself and for my bridesmaids and its honestly something we could do ourselves but I know it would be nice to have someone come in and do it for us. But everything is so damn expensive! I was thinking of only spending about $75 for every girl on hair and makeup but it seems that every place I look its around $170 per girl and I know for a fact my teacher bridesmaids can't afford it. Is there anywhere to get this done cheaper or should I just skip it all together and just have us do it all ourselves? I will post pictures of what I want for the bridesmaids and myself.

*I know my hairstyle is going to be more complicated and therefore more expensive but I am trying to figure out how to cheapen my bridesmaids hairstyles? Also for makeup I am only looking for a neutral look, no eye makeup.*

I had a junior stylist at the salon I usually go to do my hair. She charged $150 but also came to the venue, and she did a free trial. One of my bridesmaids is a professional hair stylist so she did her own and my other bridesmaids’ hair. She also helped with a couple of the other girls’ makeup but I did my own makeup and so did one of my other bridesmaids. Hair and Makeup Help! 3

Beautiful! I wish I could do my own but I have literally never done anything before with that but maybe I can start learning now. And save my money!

Yeah I didn’t trust myself to do my own hair, but makeup I knew I could handle myself. Also I’m a bit germaphobic and don’t like other people touching my face lol... having someone touch my face was going to give my more anxiety than doing it myself. My mom also has a friend who is a saleswoman for Mary Kay so she’s really talented at makeup and taught me how to do my own. So maybe if you know someone talented they could at least give you a bit of a lesson on how to do it yourself, or if not use YouTube tutorials! My makeup was pretty simple... just foundation, concealer, and blush on my face, a little lipstick, and then eyeshadow, eyeliner, and mascara on my eyes. Here’s a closer up photo where you can see my makeup a bit better Hair and Makeup Help! 4

Oh just to add though, regarding saving money, you may not actually save money if you don’t own any makeup and don’t plan on wearing it again in the future... I think I spent close to $200 on the makeup I wore at my wedding because I had to buy all of it. Ultimately it did end up saving me money because I used all of that makeup to wear after the wedding (most of it I still have and am still using 10 months later lol) but if you have no intention of using it after the wedding it may not save you money to buy all the products.

I had no idea makeup costs so much! Man this is why I don't use it lol. I will maybe just go without, it just isn't something I want to spend money on.

Lol, makes sense! If you want to go to a makeup store (like Sephora) they’re usually pretty knowledgeable about products and could maybe help you find something simple that you’d like. Even just some mascara and a lipstick may be a nice touch to help your features pop a little (and wouldn’t be too costly) But it’s totally up to you Smiley smile

    Try thumbtack.com for options.

It costs that much for hair and makeup per person ? I didn’t realize this keeping a low budget wedding is impossible.

Love those hairstyles. The bridesmaids style is simple enough that if you tried looking on thumbtack, Instagram, a local salon, or a local beauty school, I’m sure you’d be able to find someone who could do HAMU for cheaper.

Another option is to just have the hair done by a hair stylist and have them opt to do their own makeup.
I found a stylist who does tiered packages so I’m getting HAMU for the moms for $85, while bridesmaids are $135 each. So it’s definitely possible!

I would try Facebook marketplace ! You may be able to find newer stylists who are willing to travel to you or ones who have their own business and don't charge a ton. You can even post on your facebook for local friends to give recommendations.

You could try finding recent or soon to be graduates of beauty school. So many are so talented but willing to do it for super cheap because they are just starting out.
