Haggle Suzanne Neville "joy" dress? Help

Anna, on January 17, 2021 at 11:24 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 4
Found my dress at 1 of 2 local bridal stores who offers Suzanne Neville in northern VA. Shocked to hear how much it costs with veil, train, alterations. Suzanne Neville "JOY" dress! They want me to decide in a week. I originally scheduled an appointment for the Suzanne Neville trunk show at their store in Feb. They asked I come in sooner bc of my Sept wedding date in case I can fall in love w a dress sooner. Can one haggle now? Wait to see if they can give me a deal at the trunk show in a month, making turnaround time tight? Move on if over my budget? I wish there were more stores who offers the designer near me.

They should be able to give you the trunk show price early (usually 10% off). Suzanne Neville is gorgeous! So modern, structured & elegant... and yes expensive. We sold that designer in the shop I worked at, they have a longer design time so do go in early!

Honestly if you are shocked by the price I doubt that they will give you a discount that will make it a comfortable one. I would say 5-10% off is always possible even away from a trunk show. More is unlikely. Its up to you you if that's OK for you. If you are shocked I take it its a lot over your budget so you might wanna look at different designers with similar dresses and a more reasonable price tag? After all you only wear the dress one day and its not worth getting into financial stress over it. Very is many lovely dresses in every price category. Or if set on joy/neville see if they have it on stillwhite? That way you get your dress you are set on but within budget. As you haven't tried it on(or have you?) ot might not even be "the dress", be open minded. I thought I knew which dress was the one but once I tried it on I fell in love with a different style. I personally wouldn't try on something above my set budget though. (My budget was 2k and I was still spoiled for choice). If you alteady tried it maybe its worth going into another shop, giving them a strict budget and explaining what style you look for? That way you might find a similar one you like? There are sooo many beautiful dresses out there for every budget....

If you haven’t done so already, I’d def try the dress on now to see if it’s the one. See if they can give you the trunk show discount there and if not then maybe wait if you feel comfortable to get the discount. Or even try on a dress similar to it but within your budget.

My wedding is in September and my dress arrived at the store a few weeks ago. When I tried it on, I noticed loose threads and a small ink stain. I know this doesn’t happen often but it’s possible. They were kind enough to send it back and order a new one. It’ll arrive in July in time for alterations. Just sharing this to give an idea on a time frame with alterations and such with personal experience.
    Best of luck!

In addition to all the good tips above, you also don’t need to buy the veil and/or do the alterations at the bridal salon. Depending how intricate you want your veil, you can find some for much cheaper on Etsy/Amazon. Mine was cathedral length and cost $35 on Etsy.
Also for the alterations, I used Yelp and found a seamstress with very good reviews that had amazing pricing. It costs me $450 instead of the $800 at the salon. Shopping around might help get lower pricing on accessories/alterations and make the whole outfit more affordable
