Hi all,
We made the decision to postpone our 9/26/2020 California wedding this past week due to the pandemic. Thankfully our venue is owned by my fiancé's family and our vendors have very forgiving policies. The thing I'm having a lot of anxiety and guilt around is that some of our guests have already spent money on our wedding that they may not get back - especially since most Covid-related cancellation policies have not been extended to September, as yet. The location of our wedding is a popular vacation destination, so when we sent out the save-the-dates we encouraged our friends and family to book early and stay at shared condos, etc. Cancellation policies can vary and I now know at least one friend who is in a dispute with an Airbnb condo owner with a particularly strict policy. She may lose the deposit on a place she had planned to share with three other wedding guests. Considering the economic situation the pandemic has thrown us all into, I'm feeling just terrible about this and worried that others may not get refunds on their accommodations or flights, as well. I would also hate if our guests had to pay for anything twice just to attend our rescheduled wedding.
Has anyone else experienced this issue yet? Any thoughts on how to address it? I've offered to reimburse the friend I mentioned above if things don't work out with Airbnb, but I can't afford to do that for everyone.
