Guests seeing reception area before ceremony. Suggestions

Felicia, on September 1, 2019 at 6:26 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 6

Hey Everybody!

So I'm at the beginning of wedding planning and I think I might have found my venue. It is an outdoor Malibu vineyard setting with the ceremony and reception in the same space. The only thing that is a concern to me is that all of my guests will have to pass through my reception space to get down to the ceremony and cocktail hour. I really wanted the "reveal" aspect of my reception space and I don't want the chance of vendors setting up my reception area up while guests arrive. I was hoping you guys had some ideas on how to temporary cover it up that would allow guests to pass through until reception time. I was thinking of a temporary pipe and drape but I can't find an answer to if pipe and drape can be taken down within a short time frame. I wouldn't want the pipe and drape to stay up for the reception. At this moment my budget is pretty flexible and will consider all options. I attached some photos for reference. The large area up top is the reception space and the cobblestone road leads to the ceremony. Am I overthinking this!?

Honestly I wouldn’t overthink it. Unless you want to spend s lot of money trying to hide it I wouldn’t worry about it. It’s beautiful and people will just enjoy the beauty

My venue has a similar concept. You have to get through the reception area to get to the ceremony space. I haven’t really thought of it being an issue so I say don’t stress it it! Smiley smile

I don't think you would actually be able to enjoy the moment your guests get to see it the first time. You will most likely be with the photographer still, or otherwise occupied. Also, most guests will arrive 30 min prior to the wedding. Your vendors should be done with their set up at that point.
Maybe you could have some staff or ushers standing along the cobblestone path and guide them to the ceremony area to avoid them wondering off to the tables. You could then clearly mark the cocktail area and also have staff keep them away from the tables until its time for the reception.
The venu is so beautiful though, regardless of what you do, guests will love it.

We are piping and draping to cover up the reception space. It’s costing us an additional $1k. I don’t think it’s necessary but my mom insists it is. And she’s paying for it.
