Guests Blessing Our Rings

Jennifer, on April 17, 2012 at 7:36 PM Posted in Planning 0 9

I've heard of "the blessing of the rings" in the traditional wedding ceremony; however, I want to incorporate our guests into the "blessing." I'm thinking of placing our rings near the guestbook (with an attendant, of course) and placing a note with the rings asking everyone to stop and say a prayer for us (give us their blessing). Any suggestions?

We are doing a ring warming.

    This is a description:

Before we exchange wedding rings, the rings will be passed to each of our guests. Each guest will briefly hold the rings and silently "warm" them with his or her blessing, prayers, and wishes for our marriage. When it is time for us to exchange rings, the rings will have been warmed by the love and support of our family and friends.

I saw an episode of Four Weddings where the rings were passed around the guests (in a small bag) who were to bless them and make wishes for the couple before the couple had to give their vows. It was very sweet.

Was it a distraction to have the rings passed around during the ceremony?

The other guest-brides didn't make note of it but I would imagine there would be some sort of a distraction.

I do a ring warming quite often. It happens while the cereomony goes on; we don't stop and wait. It's not distracting at all.

I really wanted to do that for our ceremony but our ceremony was so fast I was afraid our rings wouldn't make it back to us in time! And it seems like it would be a distraction but maybe not.

I have it in the plans to do one as well. This would take place of any kind of unity candle/sand ceremony, etc. for us.

We did this at our wedding and it went smoothly. I liked that all the important people in our lives got to bless our rings and feel that they were an integral part in our lives.
